Recorded "Flight of the Intruder" from HBO and it was OAR! Video looked very good. This a pet favorite movie of mine, mainly due to Willem Dafoe, especially when he utters at the end "Alpha Mike Foxtrot".

It's supposed to re-air Nov 28th at 1:30pm IIRC.

King Solomon's Mines is on GuyTV voom. Scope. Looks great, colorful and plenty of detail.
I do not see any evidence of NR that spoils and softens the older transfers.

Univ-HD is showing Dragonheart on right now in HD OAR 2.35. I can't confirm whether it's 5.1 or not.

Shane how is the picture quality. This is another fav of mine. Because of its age I expect it to be a soft transfer but Kudos to Univ HD for showing it in OAR.

I noticed it too...too distracted to record it since I was focused on KC(-6.5) to win me the weekly pool (13-2 so far). OAR was nice. What I saw looked good, but I was in no condition to truly evaluate. Maybe I should post on the "cruising while intoxicated" thread as well?

It's on again 12/3 at 11PM.

To my surprise it was also in 5.1!! I caught it by mistake. It looks like uhd may be changing for the better

PQ was outstanding here on Cable. I'm not sure how it was on a dish.

The 5.1 light was lit up and has been for a while but I'd be really shocked if this was truly 5.1. My DD light goes on when I go to that channel but there is no info coming out of the back speakers.

Until the last minute it was nice....Glad Fox decided to flip the switch early... Was it a FOX NY only issue, or was everyone's like that?

Thick band on bottom of frame means upconvert...a good one, but one nonetheless.

If you look at their Online Schedule it does say HDTV, if you go to their November Download Schedule it just says 'WS' , while other movies listed in the Download schedule ( the non-Disney and Universal movies ) have 'WS' and HDTV symbols listed.

The good news is that in their December Download schedule it shows all the Disney movies ( not the Universal movies ) in HDTV and Widescreen ( also new symbols along with them ).

Mickey, I know you have a knack for these things, but are you SURE it's an upconvert? I watched my copy today and it looked much better than an upconvert. It was clearly not I, Robot quality, but it also didn't seem as bad as normal Starz upconverts. Do you think it could just be a bad HD transfer?

I just made another recording and I will compared them side-by-side. My first recording was from the 20th when it was not listed on the online calendar as HDTV and from last night when it was.

All I can say is that the the version from the 20th (I have not yet checked last night's version) had a huge band on the bottom of the frame (about 5-10 pixels) and most of the still frames lacked details.

I record, and sometimes keep upconverts, if they look really good. Finding Nemo comes to mind. That upconvert was very very very good and I can't wait to compare it to the 720p version from ABC.

The 20th version of NT was very good. It looks good-to-very-good on the 106" screen. But some of the close-ups of people's faces lacked that punch that HDTV transfers have.

Can it be a BAD HD transfer??? Could be. But do we rather have a bad HD transfer or a real good upconvert.

I will give you my honest opinion once I get the version from last night through the frame checker.

OK...both my copies (see previous post ) have a huge visible band on the entire bottom edge of the matte. It is very visible in various scenes and I found a frame that really shows it off.

I really can't comment on whether it will be different in Dec but I will definitely capture that version and compare it again. But from past upconvert versions, this is a definite upconvert.

Here is a 100% crop of the bottom left frame....

Thanks for the confirmation, Mickey.

Disappointing...

A little premature for us to be patting Starz on the back. Let's see what December brings...

Alexander the Great (1956) on Showtime looked incredible. With 13.25mbps the PQ was exceptional.

I was suprised that this was a 2.35:1 ratio...for some reason I thought it was more like 2.65:1 or higher....I saw this at the Cinerama Done in LA during their old revival festivals.

One more showing on Dec 22.
