Just to let everyone know, our local NBC affiliate, WKYC is in their brand new studio, and tonight I flipped over and lo and behold... Beautiful HD. Story upconverts need a little work, but what a great picture of broadcasters in studio!

My STB (DST-51) does not show PSIP output from any Cleveland station.

I must say I am happy that WKYC is making this effort, but I felt the quality was quite poor compared to CBS. Does anyone know what they are transmitting?

It looked like 480p to me. The Edge Enhancement was too strong and the picture lacked resolution (I could barely make out the word "Sony" on the TV behind the news people).

What's wrong with FOX, NBC... Why can't they just stick with 720p or 1080i in a 16x9 format????????

Cleveland WKYC is NOT broadcasting their news in HD. They have HD cameras and an all digital setup in their new building. It just shows you how much better a 1080i signal can look when upconverted from a digital source than when done from a crummy analog source. Don't be fooled by the aspect ratio. WKYC's digital signal is being broadcast with a 14:9 or 15:9 aspect ratio. You can only see the side bars if you have a display with no overscan. Most sets with as little as 3-5% overscan will not show the edge bars.

Unfortunately the last time I checked, a couple of days ago, WKYC wasn't broadcasting the national HD feed of Jay Leno, but upconverting from their analog channel. As has been mentioned elsewhere, their engineer Rex Rickly has said they just haven't had time to get everything working at their new location and the HD broadcasts are at the bottom of their priorities.
