bmark,

722 is interesting since all the other HD channels are between 184 and 200. Will Comcast be moving all other HD channels to the 700 range?

Also, heard anything about when WB or UPN HD may show up?

More importantly, what's the latest on Fox Sports Bay Area HD (home games of A's and Giants) if you know?

I am not expecting Fox HD (KTVU) anytime this year because KTVU's owner (Cox Enterprises) has adopted an Emmis / Sinclair attitude toward negotiations, from what I understand. I would not expect to see Fox HD until after the analog retransmission contract for KTVU expires.

I'm not sure about the hd channels being moved to the 700 range. It would make sense but that is probably a while away from happening.

Nothing new on the KTVU front regarding Fox HD, which I'm not really suprised about.

Same with UPN and WB HD chans, nothing new to report on them.

I have just confirmed that Discovery HD will be available in the Chicago area no later than Thursday, July 1st. It may even be available today as I just noticed the channel was added to the channel listings as of today. :D

I can't wait to get home and see if it's on. Does anyone else in the Chicagoland area have the ability to check right now?

no discovery HD...yet

If a movie or concert video or a TV show isn't on blu ray it darn well should be.

Everyone says that the Boston system is maxed out bandwidth-wise. On July 13th, five analog movie channels will be deleted, so we'll see what happens after that.

Discovery is listed on the Comcast web site in the HD channel line-up as "available" here in Frisco, Tx. (Its not) I called and talked to a CSR and as usual the response was "I don't know...." It shows to be on channel 667. CSR had no clue as to when it would become available.

Word of advice to all of you who are thinking of calling Comcast in the future, to inquire about a new channel. As soon as a CSR answers the phone, ask to speak to their "High Definition Team" or the marketing department. I use to work for Cox Communications and we had a small group of CSR's who handled all HD costumer concerns. So if your local carrier does not have such team, then talk to the marketing department. I stopped waisting my time with CSR's when it came to HD products long ago. Also, as I've posted before, DiscoveryHD will not be fired up in PrinceWilliam County VA until late August.

Pittsburgh is on the menu today. Strange, I called CS two days ago and the rep could not tell me one piece of information. She had never even heard of the deal made with Discovery, and that is on their website!

We've got Discovery HD in Chicago! Channel 205 for me. :D

It is hilarious how little the customer service reps know about this stuff. I have called several times in the past 2 weeks to get info on the channel being added and almost every single time they were completely unaware that it was even on the way let alone just a week away from being on the air. Not until just a couple days ago did I actually get someone to acknowledge they knew the channel would be on the air on July 1st.

It's just hilarious how much Comcast seems to leave their employees in the dark about this stuff until the last second before something becomes available. Stupid way of running a buisness.

Discovery HD up and running on the Rohnert Park/North Bay head end as of 7am this morning. Program guide data still being loaded-- only goes through 3pm PST today. Looks great.

Channel 722, which will be the channel number for the whole Bay Area. This is the only channel between 618 (Gol TV -- last Spanish language tier channel) and 801 (first InDemand PPV Channel).

All other HD channels (11 of them) are in the 184 to 200 range, with only 187 and 194 still unused (189 to 192 are PBS non-HD digital multicast channels). Hopefully Comcast will move all HD channels to the 700 range.

I believe the HD channels will be moved in the 700 range sometime this month. I'm still waiting confirmation on this happening but that's the word I'm hearing at this point.

It's great that DiscoveryHD is being added every where. That means we here in the Los Angeles areas should be getting it about November. We are always the last in the country to get any of the new channels added!

HDTVLovr, DHTG Lounge in particular... It jives with the fact that the discovery channel showed up today in the guide as well as the actual channel itself even though it is not active yet. Seems that is how it worked with the other systems around the country that came on line in the last couple of days...Here is the link to the DHTG thread. Its near the bottom of the page.
