I have received word that the deal between Comcast & Discovery is complete.

In some areas, expect to see Discovery HD on Comcast in the next week.

In other areas, it could take up to 30 days, due to local agreements.

Worse case it could take longer, dependent on making bandwidth available.

Also included in the agreement is SD Discovery On Demand.

awesome great news!

Yes, I forgot to mention it will be included with the standard digital tier at no additional cost.

As a D* subscriber, I am thrilled! Competition is a good thing. It puts pressure on D* to add more channels.

It is very exciting. Hopefully Comcast can continue the momentum in the next few months and add BravoHD. I don't know of any other true HD channel out there to request except HD-Net and that is very unlikely. I doubt Comcast will add TNT-HD until it shows significant progress in providing HD content.

If D* expands its lineup and the satellites can get INHD then again the pressure will be on Comcast to continue their HD expansion.

They really need to work hard on getting all of the local HD channels available in each region. Here in Atlanta, we are missing ABC, WB and UPN, though I don't know if they have UPN in HD anywhere. Also don't have a PBS digital in the entire state available even by OTA. Any reason Comcast can't get a national PBS digital feed for those of us in the backward areas?

Here in DFW, we've known for a while (there is thread on broadbandreports on comcast dallas) about the impending deal. But its great that it worked out this fast, i can see american choppers in HD !!
PBS was added 2 weeks back, which leaves out only UPN from the local channel list. The others Bravo, TNT etc., i can live without as they have very little programming of interest to me.
I already have the mot 6208, now all i need from Comcast...BRING ON 6408 & SUPPORT FOR FIREWIRE HDs !!

Actually, it's 6412's not 6408's - 40 gig is 40 gig!

ENJOY!

There's both a 6408 and 6412

6 is the series
4 means 2 Tuners...2 means 1 tuner (go figure)

The last two #'s represent Harddrive size...just add a 0 at the end for gb

08 = 80 gb
12 = 120gb

what we really want them to come out with is a 6430 :)

Do you know if Discovery HD will be added to all systems? Here in Santa Rosa CA as well as many other places a lot of our system is still 550Mhz which excludes us from getting even the INHD channels.

Nevermind, I just re-read your initial post, which indicates we of the low bandwidth systems are screwed again. Oh well, I guess D* still gets some of my money every month for awhile still...

That is the date here in Alexandria, VA that they are moving their Channel Lineup around and taking all Pay channels except HBO and SHO off of Analog, along with No Analog PPV Stations.

HD Stations are moving from 172-193 to 201-248.
PPV stations are moving from 2xx to 5xx

There really is no significance to the date pertaining to Discovery HD BUT I feel that will be the day it will show up here.

I am hoping that people will make sure to report here when they first see the channel on their lineup.

I am very excited about this though as Discovery was the only channel that D* actually had that I was really interested in having.

I think what David is saying is that the Cable Providers are most likely going to use the 6412 instead of the 6208........I believe he knows what the numbers mean....;)

No way for you to tell yourself...You'd have to ask your local comcast office, but finding somebody that knows (or will give you a correct answer) is nearly impossible
