I saw a commercial for this on the FOX Network Sunday Night. It looks good so I thought I'd start the thread for it even though it doesn't premiere until Nov 16 according to fredfa's excellent premiere thread. I didn't realize until I saw the promo that it stars Hugh Laurie, the beloved British actor and comedian who has been in BBC shows such as "Blackadder" and "Jeeves and Wooster". One thing we'll be guaranteed is first-rate acting and comedic timing.

My sincere thanks to everyone who makes AVSforum such an awesome resource.

I saw the pilot this summer and it does look quite good, but that has never kept a show on the air. haha. I'm looking forward to more episodes, and ii think I'm gonna need another tivo.

Is this more of a serious medical show, or more akin to X Files? The latter I hope.

Hugh Laurie is terrific, but if he is the lead, I'm afraid it'll die quicker than Firefly unless it gets really high critical mark like Arrested Dev. (This is Fox here, not PBS.)

FOX has a cool new ad running. I didn't know this is produced by Bryan Singer, a fave director of mine.

Bryan Singer directed the pilot. It looks to be a pretty interesting show--not just another medical drama. But, Dr. House is not the most appealing character. I know he's supposed to be a pain in the ass, but highly talented--I don't know if I still want to watch such a character every week. Unless they develop him better of course. So, the show has promise.

The pilot was attached free to a recent Entertainment Weekly issue.

Naturally, radio spots are declaring it the most incredible series premiere of the season. I can't imagine any premiere could possibly top the first episode of "Lost" so I'm prepared for disappointment.

NOW: my post on AVS Forum.
NEXT: someone else's post on AVS Forum.

Well, (even) Tom Shales of The Washington Post, one of the hardest critics to please, loves it (according to his review this AM), so FWIW.... I'm going to take a look, and I wouldn't perhaps before. :)

I used to think he was hard to please until he said CBS's "Day of Destruction" was OK.

if singer is only doing the first episode, then this sets up to be one of those deals where it goes right down the crapper after the pilot

expectations will be too high after the first ep and then we'll start hearing complaints about the show like we are with Lost

No discussion yet? I, for one am glad that this was broadcast in HDTV. You can have any color you want, as long as it's brown. But boy, those browns look true!

I watched it. Not a hit, but a lot of hype. Casting looks like it was done right though.

I'll have to see how it plays out. This was of course the pilot, so it still has to hit its rythm.

You are right about that! I liked the show, but absolutely HATED the color -- totally brown as you said, plus anything between 20 and 50 IRE looked like it was drained of ALL chroma, and the blacks were often tinted blue. Blech. I realize this is a "creative" decision, but it just looks ugly to me.

We'll see what happens the next week -- the promo for the upcoming episode looked like it had "normal" color.

Even Bruckheimer admitted last week on Dennis Miller that they had to back off the blue color in CSI:NY. There is a thing called "too creative."

As I watched this show, I thought that I was seeing the so-called "clay faces" phenomenon on my Mits DLP. I have NEVER seen it before on any show, so is it safe to say that this was the fault of the show? It just didn't look right to me, but I can't explain why other than the "clay faces"...

Thanks,
Jeff

Caught an outline of the series in yesterday's NY Times and tuned in. Glad I did. A different twist and welcome IMO. Didn't notice anything unusual about coloring on my CRT RPTV (1080i), via a cable company, though. -- John

Well, I'll wait for next week. This one was interesting, a different medical show (a bit of CSI, MI, and ER all together!), but the pilot usually doesn't mean much, as we all know.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "fault," as I usually reserve that for unintentional technical problems -- but yes, what you saw is the way the folks involved in the production process wanted it to look. Your "clay faces" description fits it to a tea -- I suppose they could tell me about some feeling that it is supposed to invoke, but it didn't work for me. The only feeling I got from it was that I thought I was watching an old film transfer done in 1982 on a badly misadjusted TK-27. (that last reference for the amusement of my fellow broadcasters) ...

Watched it; appreciated it. I think the dialog was mostly clever--for example, I loved the sequence with House and his female employee who wondered why he hired her. ("Because you're very good looking...")

Interesting -- I did not see that. I'm really kind of curious to view next week's "House" since as I said earlier, the color looked normal in the promo. I wonder if even the producers of the show decided they did not like that gray, "ashen" look? We shall see. One of my co-workers described the look as "bilious," which cracked me up.

If it wasn't for TiVo, I wouldn't be able to see DM! (too busy watching other HD at 9pm ET) He had Bruckheimer and all the producers of all three CSIs on, did two segments with them where he normally does The Varsity and they talked a little (VERY LITTLE, talked more about the SFX) about the moods of the shows and that is when he said that they had toned down the blue on CSI:NY. No mention of HD though.

I am not sure who was kissing who's butt with that whole thing. CBS show being plugged on a NBC network channel? (WTF?????!!!!)

I do remember a time when you NEVER EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED the other guys EXISTED! The interesting bedfellows these days on promotion/cross promotion.

OT: who's DTV TX do you guys use?
