DNS people get both. O&O get one or the other, depending on location.

But fortunately for people in the DFW area, WFAA is one of the best run local stations in the country and has great PQ. I wish I could get WFAA on an antenna, but I live about 180 miles away and will get by with the NY and LA stations on DNS.

If you live out in the boondocks and have DNS then you get both east and west coast feeds. :):D

Then why do the CSR at D* keep acting like they have no idea what is going on? One guy told me that ABC-HD "wasn't" up. He couldn't explain why the guide info was there though. Genius!

EDIT:
This is my most recent explaination....basically due to the new legislation they can't add distant networks even if you are eligable if you get your locals.
I didn't have ABC DNS turned on because I got it through my locals....would get it if I had already had it turned on. Wish I had know that a few days ago.

ABC's Detroit affiliate is not an O&O. WXYZ/7 is owned by Scripps-Howard. So you won't get ABC-HD automatically in Detroit.

According to his post last night, I don't believe he receives ABC...

My bad, misread Ken H's response. Upon re-reading, appears he is not eligible either! Damn!

This is correct.

My local ABC station is owned by Scrrips Howard, so no ABC HD from D* for me. No biggie, since I've been watching OTA WXYZ-DT, ABC Detroit, since January 2000. I also can get WTVG-DT, the Toledo ABC station.

But, I will say, all the individuals I spoke to at DirecTV were clueless. They were NOT saying that I wasn't eligible, they were saying there was NO ABC HD currently available & NOBODY was watching channel 86 & 87, which is obviously NOT the case!

The CSR's probably aren't aware of it. It's only been on for a bit more than 12 hours.

Weird. I understand that there are probably CSRs who are "clueless". But really, how can they be that clueless? I say weird because even with the complaints about CSRs, DirecTV seems to come out on top ever year in customer satisfaction reports. Does that mean the ones lower on the list are just monstrously worse?

Maybe they should put notes in the computer system that updates the csrs on any new developments like the addition of the ABC hd channels.

It's only 2.0 from the network.

The CSRs only know what they are told, and new info always seems to take several days or more to get 'to' the frontline CSRs. If you talk to the HD group (number above), they should know about ABC-HD.

Looking to watch the Sugar Bowl monday night on ABC. I have waivers and it is coming in great on my HDTivo. My brother (who lives 5 miles away, same zip code, same grade b results on the old DNS eligibility site) had his waivers denied, even though we are close in proximity, and we requested equested them on the same day. Explain that....

Anyway, we are planning on watching the game Monday night at HIS house. Can I just bring my card to his house and put it in his HDTivo, or do I need to bring my whole receiver?

The card is married to the receiver. You cannot move cards from receiver to receiver. You will have to take your receiver with your card.

I called DirecTV about this issue. I spoke with what seemed to be a very knowledgeable CSR about ABC HD. She told me that they haven't finalized the contract terms with ABC to offer HD quite yet, and anyone who may be receiving it already is doing so purely by coincidence. She said they added it to the guide, but she wasn't allowed to activate it for anyone.

She also told me that due to some new act passed by congress on December 17th, called the Chevra(?) act, that Directv was not allowed to apply for any waivers for HD if the channel was offered over ground cable. I have CBS feed, but she said I'm grandfathered in with that.

If what she is saying is true, then the test to see if they will apply for a waiver for you will not be based on signal strength at all, but whether or not the channel is run over the CATV network. She said that the networks don't even want DirecTV to apply for waivers in that case.

I guess that means I'll have to buy a huge roof antenna, but if thats what it comes down to then I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet.

No Rose Bowl in HD for me :(

Just wanted to sincerely thank everyone who responded to my rant about not getting ABC-HD from D* here in Fresno. A lot of folks went to a lot of trouble to help me out and I really do appreciate it.

I just got off the phone with the HD-eligibility dept at DirecTV and was told that when they send out waiver requests the requests automatically go to all stations that claim my area so KERO in Bakersfield will get the request from DirectV as well as my KFSN here in Fresno.

I was also assured during this most recent call that ABC HD was definitely not being broadcast at this time to anyone by DirecTV.

Oh Well!!!!!!!!!

With all the bitching and moaning about D not getting ABC fast enough,
I want to say thanks Direct. Everything else I could get off the antenna,
but ABC was next to impossible. Now I've got it and right on time.

THANK YOU DIRECT

For a long time those of us who have had BEV (which has both E&W network feeds from Boston and Seattle) have watched std. def. channels via their HD channels rather than dialing the std. def. channel numbers. As you noticed, this is because the picture looks a LOT better. I assume it is because there is more bandwidth allocated to the HD channels.

Same thing here (Miami). Also for FOX.

CBS and NBC are O&O.

All four are good OTA.
