Doesn't explain how some Klingons in classic Trek like Kohr, Kang, and Koloth had no ridges and then decades later on DS9 were back to full ridge Klingon!

I think it was resolved in the most entertaining, reasonable, plot-moving way possible. Even tied it to the whole Khan-era stuff from TOS.

Absolutely brilliant. This is what I'd hoped the whole series would be like. Too bad it's going to be too little too late.

Sounds like it could be Paul Allen (maybe).

I wonder if that kind of money could actually bring the series back to life.

I'm not sure how it could! $3 million only pays for two or three episodes.

It's still a bit of a mystery to me why Paramount doesn't just keep making the show, even if it's a short term loss, in expectation of revenue down the road from syndication and DVD sales. Maybe they've already done the math and decided that 4 seasons isn't much different from 5-7 in that respect. I think you'd also have to take into account how the series has improved quite a bit over the years, and might be expected to continue improving.

Why not take up a collection from all viewers and raise enough to pay for an entire season?

Why not make the series pay-per-view, $1.50 per episode?

Or I could just run up to the casino and have a little fun while I lose my money. I like Star Trek, too, but the show is over. It's not coming back.

Obviously you didn't read the link. It's not a gamble. If the show doesn't get picked up, you get your money back. If the show is saved, you helped save it. If not, you lose nothing. Except some of the best Trek we've seen in years since Coto and Co. are now in the driver seat.

If it's true that Straczynski will be behind an effort that airs in Fall 06 then I can wait. I loved B5 and will eagerly await his version of Star Trek!

A terrific idea. Trekkers are smart, know how to use the interenet---and have money. I give this a better than decent chance to work.

Ummmmm....did you read that link? Trek will not start up again in 2006. He has accepted an offer to do something other than Trek in 2006.

IMO... Babylon 5 was one of the great space operas during the 90s. I enjoyed the story arc of the "Shadow Wars," and all of the characters it involved.

Remember: "Vir the Moon Faced assassin?"

It will be interesting to see what is produced next from the creative mind of J. Michael Straczynski.

I guess you forgot about Odyssey 5. Like B5, it was planned as a 5-year arc. Unlike B5, it was on a station that meant it couldn't get 10 million viewers if everyone watched it.

Sorry, I'm just not that impressed by B-5. I'm currently in the middle of the third season on DVD. Although the progression of the shadow war arc is starting to make the show a little more watchable, I still find most of the writing very "dry", and unemotional. I really don't think Straczynski would be a good choice to take over Trek.

Joe Straczynski had nothing to do with the fiasco that was Odyssey 5. The much praised (among Enterprise faithful at least) Manny Coto was responsible for that misfire. Peter Weller deserved better.

Word has it that Paramount contacted Trek United. However, there are no further details at this time.

This idea was brought up in another forum, and really has some merit. Every season of Star Trek has it's share of "filler" episodes. By reducing the amount of actual episodes, they could keep the quality up by concentrating on more interesting story arcs, and we wouldn't have to sit through any more "Janeway was turned into a giant Slug" episodes. :D

Moving, and well made. Also includes a credit to the late great Jerry Goldsmith.

If these Trekunited folks raise all the money and pay for the fifth season, do they get to collect the ad revenue? Or is the show syndicated, in which case they should get the syndication money.

If Paramount is currently paying the $35million/year, and next year Trekunited is paying it, THEY should get the money that usually goes to Paramount (minus licensing fees of course).

"Giving" $35million to paramount, just to WATCH the show seems silly and short-sited. They should have some creative control to try to steer the show to improved ratings so that paramount would want to pay for season 6.

I would be willing to INVEST in the show. But not just give Paramount money so I can watch it. Even with poor ratings, if Paramount spends $0 on production, but gets the keep the syndication/ad revenue, they are gonna make TONS of profit! So I'm sure they are meeting with Trekunited, what do they have to lose?

Has all this been covered before? Sorry if it has.
