Yeah, at this point, CBS has not committed (or at least announced) to cancelling or renewing the series. So that ending was intended to somewhat sorta kinda tie up parts of the series stories, while leaving a backdoor open in case CBS renews it.

I haven't watched last nights episodes yet, but I feel for a show that's been on this long and re-started a genre of TV, they should do a proper send off.

This, maybe-kinda-sorta-possibly ending (or not ending) business is strange.

No commercials for both. They looked horrible enough there.

There was a crossover episode with Vanilla CSI earlier this season or last season.

It was really ridiculous, some of the things they did. But what do I know, we watch Scorpion . . .

CSI first look: Gil reunites with Catherine and Sara
By Lynette Rice | Thursday, August 27, 2015 | ew.com

Is your hankie handy, CSI fans?

Production has wrapped on the goodbye movie planned for Sept. 27 on CBS. In an exclusive first look obtained by EW, William Petersen (Gil Grissom), Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows) and Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle) look for clues one last time on the long-running procedural drama.

“I’m so glad we were able to do this, to go and be with the crew and the cast again, to be able to say goodbye,” Petersen tells EW. “It was really a big to-do for us.”

Most of the original ensemble will reunite for the two-hour flick. Besides Petersen and Helgenberger, Paul Guilfoyle returned to the set to reprise his role as Jim Brass. The rest of the cast includes Ted Danson (D.B. Russell), Jon Wellner (Henry Andrews), David Berman (David Phillips), Wallace Langham (David Hodges), Elisabeth Harnois (Morgan Brody), Robert David Hall (Dr. Al Robbins), Eric Szmanda (Greg Sanders), and Melinda Clarke as Lady Heather. There will be two notable absences: Elisabeth Shue, who played Julie Finlay, and George Eads, aka Nick Stokes.

The show’s creator, Anthony Zuiker, penned the script.

Weird about Nick. But I suppose it isn't all that surprising. Maybe he'll be the victim?

Watched the finale last night. I guess I was not paying much attention, but I did not know this was a series finale until a week or two ago, but had heard about the returning characters. While this was not the best CSI ever made, it was decent, tied up some loose ends and afforded some closure. If you were a watcher of the series, this is a must see.

Last one. Best series final I have seen. The first 2 leads, that red hair, plus my favorite all time, any tv show character

The finale makes me feel like we have been watching a zombie version the show for the past few years.

Grissom and Catherine were why the show was great in the beginning, but it's clear the show has been mailing it in for a while. Bringing Grissom and Catherine back really brought home what has been missing since they left.

That said - they killed Julie Finlay! Those bastards!

This thread is really 10 years old? I used to watch the show, but tuned out when Peterson left.

I also quit watching it but came back for the final episodes which raises the question, are there other episodes after the part 1 and part 2 that aired the other night? Feels like I got left hanging.

This was the poorest series finale of any popular show in recent history. I did think that William Peterson was great in the show's early days, and I've seen him several times in the theater since and enjoyed him tremendously. This was hardly his best work. And, the plot and dialog in this show were so lame I couldn't believe it. I have no idea what they were all thinking, and it was a total waste of my time.

They might be hoping somebody else picks it up, but it was supposed to be a series finale to wrap up issues from last season (since it was cancelled). I used to like Peterson in the role, and maybe he was just doing what the writers said, but it really felt like he was phoning it in. It was relatively lame and wasn't the closure I expected.

When they first announced there would be a finale with Gil returning, I was very excited. Have to say for as much as it was fun seeing him again, this finale really wasn't that great.

The whole thing actually felt like it was the Sara Sidle show. Considering she was always a character I didn't care much for and didn't even miss when she had her hiatus, I felt ripped off. And I was really looking forward to a lot of interaction between D.B. and Gil. What did we get, one conversation for like 30 seconds? And for as much as a suckup that Hodges was to Gil when he was on the show, I found it odd he only had one scene with him as well.

All in all, great seeing Gil again, but if that was the best they could do then maybe it was for the best that it ended.

I hung in there with the show until a couple of episodes into last season. I just couldn't take it. I was super excited to see Grissom and Catherine come back. While it wasn't their best work, it was better than anything the show cranked out in recent years.

FYI, Peterson is supposed to be a regular on Manhatten this season, which starts in a couple of weeks. Interested to see how he does on that show.

Over the years I kept thinking the writers missed a opportunity in naming Sara Sidle. The think her first name should have been Susan.

Late to the party, but we just watched it finally. Agreed though, WAY too much Sara. I never liked her anyways.

Still a better finale than what we got last season.
