Video distortion on CBS Sports Channel

Anyone else noticing an excess "choppiness," intermittently, on CBS's Sports Channel? Hadn't noticed it before here (NYC's Verizon) until tennis from the U.S. Open. Didn't notice the effect from the main CBS channel. The visible stuttering effect was especially bad with tennis balls in flight. Just speculation, but if they're statistically multiplexing tennis with other sports channels I can see how the choppiness could come and go depending on how much action is taking place in shared frequencies. -- John

Triple Play to Double Play?

Has anyone gone from Triple Play to Double Play for FIOS? I have Extreme HD with HBO, 25/25 for internet, and Digital Voice. Looking to ways to lower my bill. Right now my bill is about $197 a month, have a DVR in the living room that I hardly ever record anything, think I will just change that to a regular hd box, I do not even have a home phone and was thinking of dropping the digital voice and going to just a double play package, has anyone done this before? Thanks for the info. John.

WHen I used to be on the double play, it cost me less to go to the triple play and add digital voice. When I recently renewed this Summer, it was only a few dollars more expensive for me to be on the triple play than for me to drop Digital Voice and go down to the double play. But I am also on the Ultimate HD Tier and dropped down to 75/75 Internet so my Triple play cost is $140. With the 150 tier that I was on, it was still cheaper to be on the triple play than on the double play.

About 18 months ago I changed from triple play to double play. I estimated it was costing me about $40/mo for the phone service - much of which was fees that Verizon arbitrarily assigned. My triple play total bill was $221/mo with Extreme HD, Showtime/Starz package, and 25/15 internet. My double play bill was $180/mo with Ultimate HD and 50/25 internet. More channels, faster internet, $41/mo less. Ported my home number to Ooma Premier and still save $25/mo.

Just did this as well. Ported number to Ooma, dropped FiOS DV and between fees and the DV base price, am saving near $30 per month. (And Ooma not only works well, the voice quality is better than FiOS DV ever was.)

From what Verizon was telling me, if I go from Triple play to Double play, I would lose all the discounts that I have right now with Triple play and would be pretty much paying what I pay right now. I did not change it, just left things the way they were .

heard from a little bird that the FIOS VOD pause/resume/bookmark issue may have been resolved in last nights update to Quantum boxes. Have not had a chance to try it out but did notice a new power-on landing page. Anyone else see any changes?

I notice The SEC channel is now available in HD on 575.

But I am now having audio issues on the lower HD channels (503 - 665+,-) in Northern VA. Anyone else?

Here are my audio issues: On FiOS Keller Dallas: 505 (NBC Affiliate) audio stutters when scene switching in programs; 508 (ABC Affiliate) center channel cuts in and out; 511 (CBS Affiliate) audio completely cuts off for as many as two seconds. Forgive me in the event this has already been covered but I'm getting very aggravated with Verizon... again. WRT John Mason's post about (video?) choppiness, I've been dealing with that for years. I have the 7232 box now, and had the same issues with the old 6416 box too.

Please don't confront me with my failures, I'm aware of them. - Greg Allman

Was there an update to the VMS boxes last night? My box seems to have restarted. I'm in VHO4.

My experience so far has been love/hate. I love having 6 tuners. I hate the lag in waiting for guide and DVR database to load. I have to train myself to wait for the information to populate before hitting the next desired button on the remote. Also, my boxes are laggy when manually entering channel numbers, surfing the guide, etc. It's...frustrating.

(Also I'm not a TiVO hater either. I just have a husband who likes movie channels and VOD instead of Netflix and Hulu for movies so I pay for movie channels and a FiOS DVR begrudgingly).

I did not see any issues here last night in Woodbridge. I did notice the new channel and was again disappointed that it was using MPEG2 instead of H.264. The other two channels added in the last few weeks also used MPEG2 instead of H.264. FiOS is already out of bandwidth for TV and needs to start up again their conversion to H.264 channels.

Yes, these are the exact audio issues I am having; I have the CHS 335HDC box. I have also been having video issues for years, but not as bad now after being visited by five or six Verizon techs... but they still do come up.

Why SD, But No HD For Some Channels?

I just noticed the other day, that there are some channels that Verizon puts into my package where I get the SD channel, but not the HD channel. For example, I can watch OWN in SD on channel 145, but OWN in HD on 645 indicates that I'm not subscribed. Is this normal, or is there some glitch that I need to contact them about?

According to the FiOS channel list I just looked at, OWN SD and OWN HD is available on the Extreme, Ultimate, and Mundo Total tiers.
OWN HD only showed up recently. SO maybe that is the issue. But it shows the same tiers getting the HD and SD versions.

Is it possible to connect the IPC to the BHR using the RJ-45 Ethernet interface instead of MoCA? Maybe that type of connection would increase the transmission rate for video IP features like the program guide.

Turns out that I don't have OWN in my package at all! The fact that I'm receiving OWN SD is a glitch by Verizon.

Now that Im paying for Vz all by myself I decided to downgrade to Premier triple play. I still get every channel I want. Unfortunate I could not get the $79 deal so Im charged at $89 (before all the taxes and ass-orted crap throw in).

One big annoyance was that the CSR absolutely insisted that Hulu, Am Prime and Netflix would studder and buffer without 50/50 service...I now have 25/25. No surprise that I have not had a bit of trouble with any of them.

.

There he goes again... Good Ol' R. Reagan's favorite Troll line !

You could have a third of that speed and still be fine.
