One would hope. The optimist in me says they are addressing the issue. The pessimist in me says they have been doing HD for many years and still can't figure it out.

NBC knows they have issues with HDTV. They have a lot in the works right now, scheduled for completion before the Olympics. I'll ask about the details.

While your at it, ask them if they can tell their affiliates to turn off multicasting during HD broadcasts. :)

i HATE parades, but that segment made it all worthwhile. i was literally in tears laughing at a 60-70 year old man make believe he was actually singing a song featuring a 20 something year old voice. this was the worst and funniest lip synch i've ever seen...

WBAL on Comcast in Baltimore - HD the whole time. PQ was okay, too many SD shots.

The dog show looked better but not nearly as good as the one on Discovery HD.

I can't believe no one's mentioned the accident that happend during the parade. I saw a video on the news - a guide wire clipped a street lamp and it hit two women in the head sending them to the hospital.

I can't believe all the blame's going to the balloon when it appears that light was flimsy enough a heavy pigeon would have brought it down. But that's a discussion for another thread.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

I only watched the first few minutes of the HD coverage on the west coast. I turned it off as the pixelation and macro-blocking and whatever else made the HD picture awful. Multicasting must have been going full-bore for the other NBC channels.

I did notice that the artifacting was the worst when bright oranges and reds were on the screen and fast camera moves made them worse. The carpeting they walked on while in front on Macy's itself was green, so the picture on it was somewhat better.

I watched a bit of the dog show after and the HD was far better. The backgrounds of course being more muted colors (greens and blues).

Watch the HD broadcasts and notice that the macroblocking due to bright oranges and reds are clearly more pronounced than with other colors.

If this is NBC's idea of a good quality HD broadcast, then heaven help us when they take over the Sunday night NFL game from ESPN, starting in September 2006. The complaints from viewers to both the network and the league will be loud and long!!

I only briefly watched the parade. Other than the SD shots, the HD pq was really good. My local NBC station doesn't multicast. They tried it briefly but gave up on the idea at least for now.

Does the pq on NBC always look soft and washed out?

Yes. It's due to multicasting in Houston. It's really a shame. All major affiliates in Houston multicast now and all major affiliates in Houston look like crap in HD now. It's so bad that it's not even worth watching anymore. Bit-rate starved HD was NOT what I had in mind when I bought my HDTV.

Macroblocking is so annoying, SD sometimes looks better.
