Someone will have a better answer from a technical standpoint but what has happened with Cox in Phoenix is that all of the analogs are now reproduced as digital stations. If you have a digital STB, and you tune to Channel 5, you get digital. If you tune Channel 5 on an analog cable-ready TV, though, you still get the analog. The number of analog channels, meanwhile, is being gradually reduced. Now they are limited to 02-66, 70, 96-99 while digital-only channels are popping up in the 80s.

I caught a Cox Technician who was fixing my neighbors cable this week and asked him what would happen when the transition to digital is complete in 2009. He said that COX plans to continue to offer analog channels so all our older TVs will still work without a converter box. However, COX will reduce the number of analog channels (he did not know how many they would have). We can get the local channels on QAM, but that will be it. We will need a cable card or COX digital box to get any other HD/Digital channels (both now and when the transition is complete. This is for the NW Arkansas area, but I imagine this will be true of most areas that COX serves. He also said that they plan to offer more channels and that they can send 12 digital signals over the same bandwith that one analog channel would take. So as they phase out some analog, more digital will be offered.

For what? NFL network is the worst HD channel ever. There is almost nothing in HD on it. They used to replay games in HD, but now they even show games that were in HD in SD. NFL SHOULB BE ASHAMED.

I noticed A&E HD, National Geographic HD, and MyNetworkTV HD are being added by COX on June 25th. I just wish they would add HDNet. I can't get enough soccer in HD.

Where is your Cox market, if I may ask?

I did some checking.. and from what I've seen you DON'T HAVE COX anymore. They sold their TX properties and you now have SUDDENLINK (??) I believe.

I am eagerly awaiting HDNET and HDNET movies which there is still no agreement with Cox yet.

Tucson doesn't have FoodNetwork HD, HGTV HD, A&E HD, etc.. - all we have is MOJO, Natl. Geographic, DHD, UHD, and TNTHD!!!Why is Cox HD so lacking in comparison to satellite?! I'd really like to go with Cox for TV (to have same provider for internet/TV), but at this rate, I'm better off to go with Dish.

Bear Down!

Man I looked at Suddenlink in Bexley WV and their HD offering sucks:
ESPN HD
Discovery HD Theatre
HBO HD
Showtime HD
Cinemax HD
Starz! HD
TNT HD

Thanks it, pretty slim pickings, even worse than D*

Hopefully other Suddenlink areas have better HD selections than that.

edit in:
OK, TV Guide.com sucks. foudn the channel list on the sudden link site and its much better:

760 Home & Garden Television HD HD Plus Tier
761 Food Network HD HD Plus Tier
763 National Geographic HD HD Plus Tier
764 HDNet HD Plus Tier
765 HDNet Movies HD Plus Tier
766 Arts & Entertainment HD HD Plus Tier
773 ESPN HD HD Plus Tier
775 Discovery HD Theater HD Plus Tier
777 HBO HD East HD Premium
778 Showtime HD East HD Premium
779 Cinemax HD East HD Premium
780 WSWP-PBS-HD Grandview, WVHD Broadcast
790 Starz HD East HD Premium
797 TNT HD HD Basic

It's time to give props to WLNS for the HD crawl generator!!!

Now we need WHTV to go HD and Lansing's CW to get a separate transmitter so it isn't a digital sub.

This is from a mailer that we received in Lafayette, LA.

"We are currently working on new programming agreements in order to bring you more HD channels this Fall. Keep your eyes open for new developments and announcements coming soon."

This applies to the Greater Louisiana. market area, although it may apply to more.

In my area(Fairfax/NOVA), Cox is moving some of our HD channels around; hopefully to add more to the lineup. In Fairfax, all channels are now digital with the exception of one PBS channel(for TVGOS) and one local gov't channel. I believe by September, we should all be seeing some kind of improvement in the lineup, as the D*/E*(Dish) line up will boost dramatically. I'm hoping for TBS HD to come around for the playoffs, but with Cox's reputation, it might the day after the World Series...

Cox Phoenix just added A&E-HD and Cinemax-HD as well as our MyTV affil (KUTP) last wednesday. So far A&E-HD only has a few programs in HD but anything new is welcomed by me...

Well I sent Cox an email inquiring as to what type of updates they will have in the near future. Here is what I received from them...

"We are constantly seeking to add to our HD lineup. You can look
forward
to seeing more HD programming on Cox's Channel lineup in the future.
As
far as exact content and timelines we just dont have that information
to
give out."

Whoever wrote that outa be in politics..lol

This was sent to me July 10th (took them about 10 days to answer my email). I live in Southeast Kansas and right now I am kinda up in the air as to whether I would be better served with dish network or to stay with cox. Number of HD channels definitely favors dish network at this time. Would keep cox internet but really indecisive about whether to give up the cable.

Remember, what is common knowledge to some is a revelation to others....

I am Tulsa, OK and would like to see a future list of COX HD channels. They keep everything so close to their chest until it releases. I hope they carry a few more of the HBO/MAX movie channels in HD when they become available in the fall and add HDNET and HDNET MOVIES!!

It is included if you are paying for the SD version. Sometimes the customer service people forget to activate it when you get HD. Just call them and they'll fix it.

I talked with a representative at my local cox outlet. According to her, our cox hd lineup will expand to as many as 10 additional channels sometime in August. She didn't however, have the list of the channels.
Not sure how cox will compete with directv, dish, or other cable companies, but hearing this news did bring a lengthy grin on my face.

That's hopeful, I just wish that Cox OKC would add 10 new HD stations. They did add A&E HD earlier this month but that's the first new one I can remember them adding in awhile.

I guess we should count our blessings, though. My son is a Time Warner Milwaukee subscriber and I just learned that UHD and MOJO are extra cost options, not included in their standard HD package. Now that stinks!

Cox has added NFL Network to their Baton Rouge system. When they start the regular season games in late November, I was told by Cox that they will carry them on MOJOHD.
