In that same thread, there is a mention of Shreveport, LA ABC affiliate KTBS doing news in 16:9 SD widescreen. (According to Wikipedia, they've been doing it since October 15, 2008.)

You can also add Wichita, KS Fox affiliate KSAS to the HD local news mix. (They went HD when KWCH upgraded in 2008.)

No specific HD updates, but a small update for Hartford-New Haven, CT. Our CW affiliate, WTXX, has recently changed their call letters to WCCT. Just so your list is updated with the current call letters.

Add kpdx/Portland, OR/MNT to the list of Widescreen 16x9. The newscasts are done by KPTV.

On a side note, the studio video and some field video looks very sharp, but the graphics are definitely SD.

Uno mas, por favor...

KMYQ/MNT/Seattle is also in HD - newscast is done by KCPQ/Fox/Seattle and is titled "Q13 Fox News at 9 on MyQ2"

Also, KEZI/ABC/Eugene has apparently gone HD, mostly due to the demise of newscasts on KOHD/ABC/Bend. kval/CBS/Eugene is 16x9 widescreen. I should have these on Sunday.

Lots of new stuff from the Pacific Northwest!

WAND (NBC) in Decatur, IL just went HD for local news today, June 26. They had planned to go to start broadcasting their news in HD on July 1, but started a few days ahead of schedule.

For those of you who are viewing local news in HD, do those channels also show syndicated programming in HD, as well. The local channel that started broadcasting their news in HD is not providing any of their local or syndicated programs in HD, like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

The two things are basically mutually exclusive. The equipment for one has nothing to do with the equipment for the other.

But it IS interesting that members of this forum notice newscasts and live shots being in widescreen or HD, but to date no list exists of stations airing locally produced non-news programming or syndicated HD. Do the average viewers notice? Do syndicated HD programs draw viewers (and more importantly advertisers) ?

I remember when Wheel and Jeopardy went HD, a list of stations was maintained. But I don't think people care about that as much as they do local newscasts.

On a side note, KGW has the ability to record and rebroadcast local news in HD. Sunday evenings, they have a :30 newscast at 5pm, and immediately at 5:30pm re-broadcast the same newscast, in HD, followed by NBC NN at 6. To me, it would make more sense to run live at 5, NN at 5:30, then rebroadcast at 6...

I've just found on Wikipedia that Montgomery, AL ABC affiliate WNCF started doing local news in HD on April 16. (I found it on the entry for WNCF's sister station in Columbus, GA, WLTZ.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLTZ

Also, Montgomery's Fox affiliate, WCOV, started airing news in HD this spring.

In the case of WCOV, it does not currently have a news operation of its own. Rather, the news that airs on WCOV originates from the market's NBC affiliate WSFA. It's that WSFA had not been able to find a way to transmit a feed to its news-share partner in HD until recently.

KXII / CBS 12 / Sherman-Denison-Ada appears to be in HD (although I can only see it in SD on sat here...) - Newscast opens with "First in HD" and has a HD bug during the newscast...

According to Wikipedia, the station has been HD since April...

I see now KFOX TV 14.1 in El Paso Tx, it's on the list, and mostly it's all in HD, all local coverage is in HD, meaning all camera crews are carrying their own HD cameras, only SD is the national news, which, to be true, are falling behind the local stations.. (ABC, NBC, CBS. FOX news etc)

RIP Mom, we always love you 8/18/13
