How's the PQ? WNBC-DT has decided to run a news special that never ran this AM due to snow storm coverage

Here in Harrisburg, the PQ keeps going back and forth from HD to SD same with DD5.1 back to DD2.0

Looks the same as last year. Decent on WHO-DT via Mediacom in Des Moines.

In Sacramento, KCRA gave us SD for the first seventeen minutes (a common problem with this station). They then switched to HD, with 5.1 sound. The HD looks ok, considering KCRA has its worthless weather channel running.

What a difference between this picture and the Olympic broadcast! Graphics are SD.

The interview with David Schemme was terrible. Looks like a widescreen SD picture.

Edit - On WDIV-DT via Comcast here in Detroit.

I get NBC out of NY and this is ticking me off although Id rather they do it today than next week. Im guessing theres no way they show the whole thing delayed with the Olympics running immediately after.

Now the McLaughlin Group is on WNBC

I find it amazing NBC forces their prime time shows to write Nascar into the storylines like Las Vegas two weeks ago and the local news covers Nascar when FOX has it for half the season only cause NBC has the other half of the season yet when there is a live Nascar event they pre-empt it for The McLaughlin Group.

And I thought the NHL was a second class citizen in terms of coverage priority :p

KNTV-SF-Comcast. KNTV runs a Weather channel at 1.8Mbps with the balance, about 17Mbps devoted to the HD signal. Picture looks very decent considering we're talking NBC and DD 5.1 is up as well. Been on since the start at 9AM Pacific time.

To be honest:
A) Its not the Daytona 500, its just a qualifying race, and not even full qualifying at that...
B) I dont think NYC area is a NASCAR hotbed enough where lots of people would be clamoring to have the Qualifying over all the pre-empted news.

Now if theres another major snowstorm next sunday (we here only got about 1 inch from todays) in NY and they pre-empt the 500...

In Memphis, the first 10 minutes were SD, then HD for the next 15, then back to SD. Now it's back in HD, but in 2.0.

Daytona Qualifying should be back up on WNBC-DT, now. Webber just did a rejoin.

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

They just mentioned a welcome to WNBC folks, noting that you folks were in weather coverage due to the storm.

WNBC-DT We had 15 seconds of HD with heavy macroblocking at 1pm then a switch to 4:3 Pillarbars for 1min and now back to HD with standard NBC-HD macroblocking

Man. You gotta be hard core to sit through qualifying in 40 degree weather.

Anyone else notice that the color seems more vivid than normal for NBC @ Daytona. Sometimes NBC comes off as washed out compared to ESPN and CBS...not today. Incredible color, virtually no macroblocking here. (full bitrate)

Watched the qualifying OTA on KNBC-DT in Los Angeles. Though PQ looked improved over how it looked last season, still not looking as good as the Olympics. All the stuff from Torino has looked great so far, keep up the good work NBC. NASCAR PQ still leaving a bit to be desired.

The PQ and color saturation seemed very good today, so we'll see how the 500 goes next Sunday. That first screencap is hilarious...graphic overload!

That's what I complained about in my post. For over half of the 2 qualifying laps there was 1 if not 2 graphics there.

That’s exactly what it is. Very disappointing. I really hoped they’d have HD pit cameras this year, but I guess not.

I'll be at the 500 on Sunday and I can't wait to test out one of those Nextel Fan View units. Those are very cool, and could revolutionize how fans at ALL sports watch the live action.

The PQ was killer on the local NBC affiliate here. They don't run any subchannels. :)
