I think a lot of people are incorrectly assuming Robin & Ted are definitely still dating because of that scene. Some people in the "Hot off the Press" thread are like me in believing that it can be open to interpretation. To me, it looked like they weren't necessarily there together, but they were still close. Whether or not this means they were there as BF/GF or as friends (either as each other's dates or there separately) I think is up for debate.

Personally, I thought there was a subtle awrkwardness between the two in that scene, leading me to believe that they are no longer dating by the time Lily & Marshall get married.

I almost forgot: yet another character from a Joss Whedon series makes an appearance on HIMYM: the mayor (a.k.a "The Big Bad") from season 3. Whoever bet SMG was going to be next lost. So the list is now:

Lily: Alyson Hannigan (Willow on BTVS)
Sandy Rivers: Alexis Denisof (Wesley on BTVS/Angel)
Penelope: Amy Acker (Winifred/"Fred"/Illyria on Angel)
Chloe: Morena Baccarin (Inara on Firefly)
Scott/Brian: Tom Lenk (Andrew on BTVS)
Clint: Harry Groener (The Mayor on BTVS)

There's even a Wikipedia reference about this trend.

The best part about tonight's episode was Slap #2. I thought we were never going to see the remaining 4 slaps, but I guess I was wrong.

as soon as he did that, i turned to my wife and said "that's number two"...then Marshall said it...she was like "how did you know?"...hehe.

this show and The Class (is anyone else enjoying this show as much as i am?) are quickly becoming two of my favs...they make for a great hour of television. for reference, i am a huge The Office, Scrubs, Arrested Development (one of the best ever), Entourage and Weeds...just didn't want anyone to think that i need a laughtrack to tell me what's funny .

I like this show and thought last nights episode was pretty good and also hope it sticks around for a few more seasons. I tried to get into The Class but just could not do it and gave up after 3 or 4 weeks. But honestly both these shows pale to 21/2 men which is outrageously funny every week and only put The Office in front of it as my favorite comedies.

good episode last night...

Barney: "She's a 15."

Ted: "Like in Blackjack? Not sure if you'd hit it."

While I could see it coming from a mile away the sewing machine gag was laugh out loud funny.

Edit: I must have been half asleep when I typed that....

Meant to comment that this week was the repeat of the infamous "Slap Bet" episode. God I feel like going to a mall... today

Dear god... read the latest news thread. They might actually not renew this show! One of the truly funny comedies on TV, I can't believe they won't!

I rarely care about the upfronts, but I'm really worried that HIMYM might not show up on CBS' list.

I thought this show was good and had great potential after season 1, but have been disappointed this year. The writing is spotty and its just not as funny.

Wow... great episode tonight, though I almost expected the cake chick to coming walking out. If it ended on that note I would be really sad, but at least there was some closure for some people.

Entertainment Weekly has been predicting it's demise for a few weeks despite being fans of the show, I sure hope it returns. How will we ever hear.... dary!

I can't believe the dreadful Two and a Half Men is so much more popular...

One of the things that brought this about is a CBS executive watched the show one week, pronounced that "he didn't get it" and said he wanted it gone.

I wish I was kidding.

Not to toot my own (blue) horn, but... I usually get stuff like this wrong.

That zoom-out shot of Barney when he thought Robin was pregnant was the best use of that effect EVER! (What is that effect called or how do they do it? Is it something like a zoom-out with a fisheye lens or something?)

That shot was invented for Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. He had been trying for that effect for many years, even painting a scene on rubber and stretching it, when they finally hit upon a simultaneous dolly out/zoom in...

I only watch Numb3rs and this on CBS. I watched The Class because of this show, I didn't have anything else I wanted to watch till 9 and that was entertaining enough. I will give Moonlight chance next fall, but if HIMYM is cancelled I won't be watching CBS on Monday at all.

How can they possibly think of getting rid of this show. This is pretty much the only comedy I watch right now. Both my wife and I love it. I still do not see how that idiotic show the class is still on and they are considering scrapping this, makes no sense at all.

uh, last i heard The Class is probably gone next season...btw, The Class is a really funny show...that and HIMYM made for one of the better hours of comedy on TV this season...i think what you meant to say was "I still do not see how that idiotic show Two And A Half Men is still on and they are considering scrapping this, makes no sense at all"...it's always my go-to "how in the world do people actually like that show" reference .

Actually, 2.5 Men is one of the funniest shows on TV if you like that type of humor. If you don't then it probably is horrible. I for one don't understand British comedy (Bennie Hill, Monty Python etc.) as not one bit of it is funny. OTOH, I think movies like Airplane, Naked Gun etc are a riot.

Its all about what type of comedy you like.

yeah, i know...but in the few eps of 2.5 Men i've watched, i can always see the "jokes" coming from a mile away...i also enjoy the Naked Gun and Airplane series, but don't really like British humor either...like you said though, to each his own.
