They need to stop these press releases and teases and just do the freaking thing already. Its killing me!

My wife and I re-watched every episode over the last several weeks. Still just as good today as it was back then.

As clueless as your dismissive attitude toward Firefly is () I concede that it is not in the same world as the late lamented Deadwood.

Last season "Ray Donovan" brought back memories of Ian McShane / Al Swearengen .. it was almost Swearengen for the New Millenium .. the upcoming "Deadwood" film gives me another reason to fight off the Reaper ..

Firefly had it's resurrection movie and got an ending. Unlike Deadwood the time for that show has passed.

A promise from an HBO exec, and $5 will get you a cup of coffee.
When it has a budget and pre-production activity then its a better chance it will happen.
Just ask David Milch and the cast/crew of Deadwood how much a promise is worth.

I was elated when I heard about this possibly happening. I had kind of been holding out hope that Netflix would've picked it up when I saw they were rebooting some older cancelled series but this news is great. I'm one of those people who consider Deadwood the best TV show ever, and Ian McShanes performance in it some of the best acting ever. It's not a show for the dim-witted. The Blu-Ray box set is fantastic.

Maybe since HBO has just ended Boardwalk and possibly True Detective they'll consider bringing Deadwood back for real if the movie is successful..... I doubt it but hey, a guy can dream can't he?

The 'Deadwood' movies are finally happening
By Alan Sepinwall, HitFix.com - Jan. 8, 2016

The "Deadwood" movie is finally happening!

Unless it doesn't.

Late last year, "Deadwood" alum Garrett Dillahunt said he was hearing "credible rumors" that there was finally movement on the looooong-gestating idea of wrapping up David Milch's epic HBO Western with a TV-movie. (Originally, the plan was for two movies, but given that "Deadwood" ended a decade ago with no movement on these films, one is probably the most anyone can ask for.) And yesterday at the TCA press tour, HBO's Michael Lombardo told TV Line's Michael Ausiello, "David has our commitment that we are going to do it. He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be — and knowing David, that could change. But it's going to happen."

But there remain, as always, a whole lot of moving parts here. First, Milch has another project he's working on before he can turn his full attention to the "Deadwood" film. And the "Deadwood" set — one of the largest and most expensive ever built for a television show — would have to be recreated in some form, though the fact that the real Deadwood suffered a major fire not long after the events of the series would give Milch and his team license to build something that looked incredibly different.

More problematically, there's the question of the show's large cast, which had a few dozen significant speaking roles at different points. Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane aren't currently locked down with regular jobs (making a movie while "Justified" was on the air would have been nearly impossible), but there's still the matter of arranging everyone's schedule at roughly the same time. The show's about a community, rather than just a couple of guys, and isn't really built for the "Arrested Development" Netflix approach where everyone's off in their own scenes, not interacting with one another.

Lombardo noted that the cast remains incredibly close, and "Deadwood" alum W. Earl Brown confirmed that when I expressed some skepticism on Twitter about whether this might ever really happen. [CLICK LINK AT BOTTOM TO READ TWEETS]

Would I love to see a Milch-written "Deadwood" film featuring most of the original cast? Abso-****ing-lutely. But, as I've written about before, the "Deadwood" series finale functions as a much better end to the series than it gets credit for, because of how messily things ended between Milch and the HBO regime at the time.

But as Milch liked to say, "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans." If a screener arrives in my inbox, I'll be thrilled. But we've been down this road too often before to get my hopes up until then.

I'm optimistic but I agree with Sepinwall that Deadwood have a very expansive cast so to get everyone one of them on contract and schedules aligned will be a mountain to climb. It's not like putting together 5 or 6 actors.

you guys are too pessimistic...the fact that HBO's programming head confirmed that a movie is in the works is 100% confirmation to me that it is happening...all they are waiting on now is for Milch to finish the script...as far as getting the cast back together the fact that this is only a movie as opposed to an ongoing series bodes well for getting most if not all of them back...it's much easier to coordinate schedules when you're making a 2 hour movie and even if people like Kim Dickens are busy with other shows they can find the time during the off-season...plus it seems the original cast are enthusiastic about returning so I'm sure things will work out...no way HBO would gets fans excited after so many years of silence if he wasn't 100% certain it was happening

Amazingly a Deadwood movie script has finally been written! Even more amazing is that Milch left it alone long enough for someone else to read it!

http://deadline.com/2017/07/deadwood...ut-1202136741/

Right now Westworld is shooting on parts of the old Deadwood set, so not only do they have to figure out a schedule that gets all the cast back but they now have to shoot around Westworld.

Time is running out as Ian McShane said. And that was referring to himself. The show already lost two cast members.

Sign up for a free month of HBO Now, binge, cancel, done.

Although the HD is beautiful on Blu-ray. It was always a great looking show. At a time when HD was shiny and anything would do as long as it was high-def Deadwood was full of texture and detail.

While it is generally agreed this program is one of the best ever, be prepared for some very rough language. I once clicked a counter for the use of the 'f' word. It was an amazing number. I know, in just one minute, it was used 11 times.

All the Deadwood episodes are available on HBO Go and HBO Now, if you don't want to spring for the BDs. The show is my all time favorite, so I bought the BDs. Milch's profane but beautiful prose is in a class by itself.
