The last time there was a Switch-Up week, didn't Ballas and Hough trade partners then as well, and didn't Chmerkovskiy also do a two-on-two trade (though with his brother rather than with Chigvintsev)?  And didn't the male contestands and the female pros do a complete rotation, as they did this time?

I've not been fond of the make-a-couple-dance-for-nothing system of this cycle and the last one, but at least this time there will be no elimination based solely on Switch-Up week and thus no incentive for a pro to try undermining another's chances.

I see the switch-up much like a Sadie Hawkins dance. It's a nice change of pace although its success is more based on the choreography than partners. I do think it didn't realize its full potential because it was hard to compare to the rest of the season since the dance styles were so different. It was almost finals' Freestyle.

I was looking for something on this, and surprised to see so little.

I have a problem with portions of the show heavy with strobe lighting. Is that just a common problem or do I need to look at my system?

ABC is notorious for bitstarving it's HD signal. In my market ABC HD is basically the bitrate of a commercial 480i DVD, DWTS looks like crap with most any motion or especially strobe lights I like the show so I continue to watch but it's picture quality is very poor under demanding conditions, it's not your equipment it's ABC HD

DWTS (and ABC programming) looks fine here. I think your problem is your local affiliate. (KSTP?) My problem here is the NBC afflliate. They can't even do a fade in or out without major macro blocking. A commercial DVD has better PQ than WSLS.

How many subchannels does KSTP have?

Yes basically the total blame lies within my local ABC HD affiliate(yes KSTP), I'm sure DWTS with mostly full bandwidth looks wonderful. In my market it's not necessarily the sub channels(which KSTP has several) but the large amount of bandwidth allocated to MDTV although I've read on these forums it's not just my local ABC HD channel, many other ABC affiliates(and other networks as well) suffer from a bitstarved signal(I know Philadelphia's ABC HD is similar). While I really prefer 1080i, 720p does have an advantage of looking decent with a minimal amount of bandwidth, too bad stations like KSTP go above and well beyond that
I feel for you on your local NBC station, in my market KARE(NBC) only has one Wx sub channel and for the most part looks great, only bettered by full bandwidth WCCO(CBS).

Weekly BUMP for tonight's show. Pitbull is the guest judge and performer.

Co-host Erin Andrews replaced this week (and possibly next week) by Leah Remini - Erin's duties as sideline reporter for Fox during the World Series (SF Giants vs. KC Royals, for those of you who don't know who's in) preclude her from doing her DWTS stint.

Celebs are back with their original pro partners, and scores from the last two weeks will determine who goes home tonight. There was no elimination last week during the 'Switch-Up Week'.

Sorry for the delayed recap again. Was tired on Monday night and was hurting all day Tuesday. (Hey s*it happens, even to me. )

Anyway, this week, back to regular partners and Pitbull as guest judge. Leah Remini filled in for Erin Andrews who is working for Fox during the World Series.

Typical reactions to adjusting back to regular pro partner after doing the switch-up last week. Witney was really bummed because she and Michael Waltrip only got a 20 after their disco routine.

Amazingly, he did a much better dance (Argentine tango) with his regular pro Emma, getting a 30. How'd he do? See below.

Injuries abound with the leaders, Alfonso (who pulled a groin during his Jazz/Carlton routine) and Witney (who hurt her back during the Sunday dress rehearsal). But both upped their game for their salsa and actually had the highest score of the night (39). Lowest of the night were Tommy&Peta and Antonio&Cheryl, both with 28. However both were safe.

Please remember that the elimination this week was based on the scores and votes of the prior two weeks (During ''Switch-Up" week there was no elimination).

The last three couples before the elimination were - Janel&Val, Jonathan&Allison and Michael&Emma. And declared safe were: Michael&Emma. The remaining two were not necessarily the bottom two.

And going home was:

Jonathan&Allison (Jonathan clearly did not have the fan base as I expected).

This coming Monday will be a Halloween themed show, with team dances and the really scariest part: The return of Len Goodman as judge. Be afraid, be very afraid!

Note: I promise to be a little more timely in my show recap commentary.

One thing I've noticed is that the dances have shied away from pure couple dances (just two on the dance floor). In several performances during the show, they're joined by other pro dancers - sometimes at the start, sometimes in the middle.

I wish they would stop doing that. It's supposed to be about the celeb/pro couple and I think sometimes the backup dancers draw the judges' attention away from the celeb/pro couple who are competing.

Just IMHO.

News update. According to E!, Erin Andrews will return for tomorrow's Halloween themed show, even though the World Series between KC and SF will go to game 6 in KC (SF leads series 3-2). Probably on red-eye post show to get to KC for her sideline reporter duties.

Weekly BUMP for tonight's show. A Halloween Spook-tacular. Erin will be back. And the ghost of judges past (i.e., Len Goodman) will be there too.

Team dance week as well.

I should clarify for those of you who don't follow the World Series or baseball in general. Sunday was game 5, Monday is a travel day as the series moves back to KC, Tuesday will be game 6, Wednesday will be game 7 (if necessary). The Monday off day gives Erin a chance to return to DWTS. She'll then fly out to KC for the game(s) there.

Show over on the west coast. Len Goodman returns, popping out of a coffin, no less. Erin was back too - a bit overdressed for the night.

8 individual dances plus two team dances (freestyle) - Team Itsy Bitsy and Team Creepy.

I should say that Len agrees with my commentary above (message 5590). Couples dancing should only have two people on the dance floor. The judges definitely complained (but still gave highest scores of the night to Bethany&Derek) that they really they couldn't see the dancers and the moves with all the people and props on the stage.

Well, to make things simple they announced that all members of Team Itsy Bitsy were safe (which included Michael&Emma who did a not so 'jive' jive, scoring only 20).

Team Creepy were in jeopardy, including leaders Alfonso&Witney and Sadie&Mark, but they were declared safe.

Last two remaining were Antonio&Cheryl and Tommy&Peta. And eliminated were....

Antonio&Cheryl (her non-winning streak goes on).

Some semblance of normalcy next week.
