I'm not a big Queen Latifah fan (enjoyed her in a couple of movies) but I think she was one of the best musical performers the show has ever had.

Not surprised about the booting.

We all know, Wayne- who's more preserved than a Fig- Newton should have been jettisoned but he has a big fan base. They don't seem like the type that would call in and vote (forget about text messaging or on line voting) but he still has support.

Wayne does have a large fanbase, but I didn't think he had that large of one. The guy who was booted was Robbed, robbed I say. Sabrina and the race car driver are the ones to beat. I just started watching this show and it is great. Marie Osmond and Marc Cuban surprised me as well. Mark, do you still participate in AVS? I know you used to. If so good showing on DWTS.

Mark, if you are reading here and you want to continue on the show, stop with the O face expression all the time. It's either that or your underwear is wet but please stop with that nose crunching teeth extending mug.

I think the show's been over long enough to report this...

Anna and Albert got booted on week 2. They were in the bottom two along with Cheryl and Wayne. (Wayne had the lowest score with 15, Albert had a 21). The typical early season "surprise" where the lowest score for dancing is outweighed by the star's large fan base. (The Master P effect).

Apparently Jennie Garth's base was large enough to avoid elimination after her fall on Monday.

This hasn't been reported here, but needs to be.

Jane Seymour's mom passed away suddenly last night, which is why she didn't appear on the results show. Jane returned to England to be with family.

Tom announced the results of the voting for her and Tony and that she was safe and would move on to the next week's round of competition. Tom also announced that she would continue in the competition as a tribute to her mom, who was a fan of the British version of the show.

Wayne spoke for the group to express their sympathy and support for Jane and her family.

Obviously, the voting is going to be skewed the next week or two as Jane and Tony will receive a large sympathy vote from the public - she is well liked by many. This is NOT a repeat of the Sara Evans situation.

Is it true that celebrities, movie stars, etc. are BEGGING to be on this show? I hear that this show is becoming a real status thing. As busy schedules as these people have, and they want to add to that shcedule to dance! Really amazing to me.

BTW, absolutely no problems with who got "kicked" last night. Wayne, you may be next on the chopping bloc.

Drew has been a great addition to the show. His one-liners are actually funny and spontaneous and delivered well. It wouldn't bother me one bit if he replaced Samantha permanently.

As for who got booted, it wasn't a suprise to me. Models generally have problems on the show due to their low recognition factor. Male models are even further behind the 8 ball in that department.

Plus, I was sick of the guy's "sprinkler" dance move everytime he was caught on camera.

While Wayne Newton probably still has a reasonably large national fan base, don't forget who is partner is. After 4 seasons and 2 wins, Cheryl Burke is probably more popular with this show's fan base than "Mr. Las Vegas". He may have escaped elimination because of her, not the other way around.

Nope, not joking. He seems relaxed and at ease when delivering his lines, which actually come off funny! (imagine that)

By contrast, Samantha always looked uncomfortable and even intimidated by the "stars" at times. As a result she often flubbed her "funny lines."

Yep, and the same thing goes for Beauty Pageant contestants. They just don't have the face recognition the rest of the "stars" do.

True, Cheryl and his fan base may be the reasons Wayne is still on the show, but Julianne is fast becoming a fan favorite, IMHO. She's given some great performances and is half way there to tying Cheryl in wins. Hey Maxim, put Julianne in your magazine! Cheryl's been in there 2x (not that that's a bad thing).

Oh yeah. Marilou Henner has been begging to do the show. And Jane wanted to do the show (and after hearing that one of the reasons she wanted to do the show was because her mother was a big fan of SCD, I'm once again wondering why she chose to do the US version instead of the UK version ).

One of the reasons these stars want to do the show is for the huge exposure. Drew has said on a number of occasions that he is now more recognized as having been on DWTS than he ever was for being in that Boy Band. Other celebs have said the same thing and it's not surprising since DWTS is drawing about 20M viewers a night.

What surprises me is that I haven't heard any of the female pro golfers or volleyballers beg to do the show. Those women are almost entirely dependant on sponsership money for their income because the prize money in those sports is not all that much and what little prize money there is is won by only one or two women that win 90% of the tournaments. It seems to me that exposure to 20M people on DWTS would be a great boon to their sponsers.

I agree. I was surprised when it was mentioned earlier in this thread about how someone was saying that they missed Samantha because Drew was so bad by comparison. She did an ok job, but Drew seems funnier, more entertaining to me, at least for the moments I stop fast forwarding the Tivo long enough to hear what he's actually saying.

Given the "black hole" nature of this program (i.e., 2-3 programs a week sucking up too much of my available weekly tv time), with too much redundancy, the inane dialog from the host/s, the judges, the typically weak musical performance interludes, etc., this season I'm determined to skip most everything except for the dance preparation scenes and the dances. I'll skim through much of the judges advice (which is often predictable and contradictory or inconsistent anyway) and also skim through most of the "waiting for their scores" backroom banter, i.e., "we really worked hard this week, I love being here, everyone is dancing great, hope the fans keep us here", ad nauseum.

As far the voting last night, besides the models lesser popularity profile, I think that his dance partner might have played a significant part in him being voted off. In the previous (first) week of competition, I thought she came off a bit poorly, attitude wise; speaking up when the judges were critiquing their dance, the irritated faces she would make during that process. She just didn't seem to be a very likable person, though she did seem to be better this week.

I think that for the lady golfers, their seasons are pretty much the whole year. Sure, it's slow right now, so only the fall DWTS would be acceptable. Then, the only golfers that ABC would be interested in are Michelle Wie, Natalie Gulbis or Annika. Of those three, I would think that Natalie Gulbis would be the only one who would actually do DWTS. But then again, she's making tons of money as it is and maybe she not a good dancer and not interested in making a fool of herself.

As for the VB players, the only ones with any name recognition are Kerry Walsh, Misty May and Gabby Reece. Maybe Holly McPeak. Kerry and Gabby are way too tall and would have a tough time matching up with a partner. Misty May might be a good choice.

Not for nothing, but I think that the Pro Beach Volleyball circuit is mainly an NBC affair. And I don't think there's too much ladies golf on ABC either. If they do go with a female athlete, it would probably be from the WNBA, since their tied into ABC/ESPN. Maybe that cute point guard would be interested. If she's good, maybe it could bring exposure to the WNBA.

Wow, I really couldn't have said it better...agree on all all points:

- The black hole nature of the show (though we only do the super-fast-forward thing on the results show - we watch every bit of the competition show). There is a LOT of fluff in this show.

- Anna Trebunskaya has been one of my least favorite dancers for as long as she's been on the show (I think she skipped last year, but she's been around for awhile). She has a great body and a lot of skill at what she's doing...but her personality/attitude and sneering facial expressions are a huge turnoff. Same exact thing goes for Karina Smirnoff.

I thought she was great with Jerry Rice. However, she hasn't been winning me over this year.

I agree with you 100% on Karina.

Cheryl, Julianne and Kym all have great personalities.

Edyta looks like she's the nicest person in the world. She's always smiling and looks so happy, but then again, who wouldn't smile if they had a body like that.

The volleyball/golf suggestion brings to mind tennis players too. The tennis season is pretty much year-round, but the last major (US Open) is in September and would seem to be timed pretty well with the fall DWTS season.

With that said, I don't see many star tennis players taking 12+ weeks off to do DWTS, but some of the older or retired players (Anna Kournikova comes to mind first...but also Chris Everett, Gabby Sabatini, Monica Seles, etc) would be interesting.

Ok, thanks. Not having seen the first season of the show and only the latter half of the second, my only exposure to Anna has been this season, so I wasn't sure if my assessment of her was completely fair or not.

As far as Karina, I can see why some people might not care for her, but.. I don't know what it is but I find myself wanting to like her. Can't really explain it. Maybe she has just enough appeal or humanity about her that I root for her better nature to reveal itself more. or something.

I frequently find myself watching the dancers reactions to the other dancers and what they are saying or doing, and that started with Karina a couple seasons ago, wondering how her peers really felt about her. Like in the back room when they are all sitting around waiting for scores or their dance turns, or, when someone is voted off and they all gather at the end to console each other. I look for slivers of hostility or indifference between them, behind the pearly white veneers of friendliness and camaraderie. I want to know who despises who!

If you'd dance ten or twelve hours a day like she does you'd have a great body too.

But seriously, Albert was on Kimmel last night and he said he went from a 34 waist to a 32 waist in the 6 weeks he was on the show. If an already stick-thin model can lose two inches in six weeks...

And then there's Wayne, who made me spew coffee out my nose, when he said, "I do a two hour show every night. How hard can this be." When Lisa Renna left the show it looked like she was easily less than 10% body fat and Wayne thought DWTS would be easier than SINGING for two hours.

The name and face recognition factor for the professional dancers has also gone through the roof.

Before this show aired for the first time, could you name three ballroom dancers? Two? One?

^^^^ I could recognize a couple (e.g. Tony Meridith) but I wouldn't have been able to put a name to the face.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention.

I WANT MORE ANNA MIKHEAD.

Last night was a big treat for me since Mikhead is my favorite International Standard dancer. But now I'm spoiled and I want more, MORE, MORE.

Natalie Gulbis is just about the only female pro golfer who anyone would want to see on this show. And, considering how much of her income is earned off the course because of her looks, she would easily be able to take the 3 months or so off the tour to do the show (if, in fact, there even are any significant LPGA events going on in the fall). I wouldn't be surprised if the show's producers have approached her already.

Anna Kournikova, as somebody mentioned, would also be an excellent choice, and she needs something right about now to get her pop-cultural buzz back. They've probably talked to her, too.
