I'm watching it right now on Buckeyecable channel 605

16:9, not stretched...very vivid colors.

I thought I was hallucinating when I stumbled on it..

Edit: It was on my CW-HD channel. Being a cartoon...it was impossible to judge any other aspect of the PQ. Didn't look stretched...colors look great on my plasma....I assume it was HD.. Anyone else see this??

42" in the dining room.

65" in the family room
106" in the family room

I heard they were going to run some test, but I dont understand why it was being shown on CW. Maybe buckeyecable was just using the channel as a test.

im guessing it was stretched or maybe zoomed - you cant tell with cartoons, and they pretty much always look vivid to me.

Hey guys...it was an older episode..the one with Kenny G and the father-son thingy

What made me think it was real HD was that a few frames had actual photos...and they looked perfectly normal...not zoomed or stretched.

But then again...I cannot be sure. I am in my office right now...if I get home in time I'll check out tonight's episode.

It wasn't the CW... it was a local station that is a CW affiliate (which all have their own programming for most of the day)

First HD Episode of South Park Exclusive to Xbox 360

Tune in to the adventures of Butters every week? Wait until you see him in HD.

Wired News has learned that on Tuesday, March 6, Microsoft and Viacom will release the first-ever high-definition episode of the Comedy Central series South Park exclusively on Xbox Live Marketplace.

For the first two weeks of availability, all Xbox Live members will be able to download the episode, titled "Good Times With Weapons," for free.

Additionally, from March 20 through April 3, Best Buy will offer free HD-DVD discs featuring the episode with any purchase of an Xbox 360 console, or the HD-DVD add-on player.

South Park's eleventh season begins Wednesday at 10 PM on Comedy Central; new episodes will appear on Xbox Live Marketplace the following week.

kickass, i'm very glad I got my xbox now

It's time to give props to WLNS for the HD crawl generator!!!

Now we need WHTV to go HD and Lansing's CW to get a separate transmitter so it isn't a digital sub.

Cool. Been a big fan of South Park for a long time. Any word on a XBOX 360 price drop anytime soon? I have waited so long to buy one I would feel like a fool paying full price for a system that has been in the market as long as it has. I know PS3 hasn't had stellar numbers but the Wii is doing seriously well. I know they target two very different gaming demographics but I would still think Microsoft would want to get some of those people buying Xbox360's. A price drop soon makes sense.

People stopped watching because it sucked ass. Not because they didnt know the show was on. Now they are no longer watching the shows they liked because you constantly promote other crap.

Downloaded the HD show. It took over 4 hours to download but it was definitely worth it. The PQ looked fantastic and this episode was great.

Downloaded. It strangely only took about 20 minutes. That was awesome, too bad it was a mediocre episode. The HD looked great though. Colors were nice, clarity was excellent.

Any idea how they're converting these to HD?

It was produced in HD originally. There was a press release a while back that stated as much.

It is just over 1GB to download (and slow too) but it looked so much better in HD than 4:3, even more than King of the Hill (only saw screenshots of that). One problem is that there is still staircasing on the edges which surprised me. 720p also I should mention (not sure the framerate since it is a worldwide release - I assume we all got the same version).

Was the X-Box episode 16x9? If so, it seems odd they would change formats just for one test.

Comedy Central is probably ramping up for its HD debut. South Park is one of their popular shows. All the animation is done on computer so they can upscale it to HD. The test was to see how long it took and how much it cost.

Looked good, but not one of my favorite episodes.

To please the gaming crowd, they should have chosen Make Love, Not Warcraft instead.

Maybe that will be next!

It's now official. SP is now going to be done in 16:9 HD. Older ep's will be remastered for HD which is a nice touch. If only more animation studios would go HD.

But will the remasters be 4:3, 16:9 cropped, or are they remaking them for 16:9?

ButtersDad said that they would be done in 16:9. I suppose they will do it in 16:9. Cropping a 4:3 show is really, really bad m'kay. Don't do that.

They are being re rendered. not just cropped i would imagine re rendering wouldn't be cropping, cropping would be so simple, they said its going to be a long process.

So are they re-rendering them to be identical, or are we going to notice a huge improvement in the animation quality?

I don't know, its just what i read on the website i know episodes like "Good Times With Weapons" had to be re rendered when it was broadcast on D* 101,HD-DVD and Xbox 360 Download. So that would be a good example which wasn't stretched or cropped and that was great quality.

For the most part the "animation quality" is intentionally poor. I watched a behind the scenes once where they were basically using advanced computer animation tools designed to look like they were working with construction paper cutouts. It was pretty cool stuff that they were doing to keep the home/handmade look but take advantage of using computer tools.

So we could expect higher resolution images and better background details... but I expect the animation to stay pretty much the same.

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!

I know it's intentionally done the way it is, but I'm referring specifically to episodes from the earliest seasons--they look prehistoric compared to the stuff they do now. In the more recent seasons, they've largely abandoned the cardboard look. The earliest seasons were strictly cardboard.

Compare an episode like Volcano to the stuff they're doing now. The art style/animation is much more complex today than it was then.

I at least hope they don't clean it up, as it has always been part of the charm. I would be fine if they stopped tweaking and improving the new shows too. I always liked that the show reminded me of what might be produced by two kids (Matt & Trey) playing with Colorforms (those little plastic static-sticky things you could make your own scenes with).

Yeah baby!  It's Halloween!
