Here's another problem with the clone theory: Claire was several months pregnant when she arrived on the island.

1) They would have had to clone and impregnate her, then time everything so that all the Losties wake up at exactly the right time to correspond with how pregnant she was when she got on the plane.
2) Women who conceive on the island die, and she didn't. So she must not have conceived on the island.

-Rose "cured" of cancer.

-Juliette's sister "cured" of cancer (by Ben?)

-Is the real Julitette actually on the Island or was she knocked out & copied? If copied, not a chance she's gonna get off the island.

-Ben clearly surprised to find he has a tumor.

-Was Mikhail really killed at the fence and a new version appears.

-Mikhail didn't have a problem shooting Mrs. Klugh at the ranch - will we see her again

-Lotsa hidden stations used for observation.

-Extensive medical facilities probably not set up to work on the prgnancy thing - how would they even know that was a problem until long after they arrived.

Even seeing the plane crash, the questions are interesting.

The rapidly changing images/sounds in the others camp could be used to "restore" a clone's memories and actual personality.

Smokey's real job it to destroy malfunctioning clones so that a new one of the same person can be made.

I DO NOT believe they are all clones, but aside from Eye-Patch growing ~35 years in a couple of weeks, clones are a possibility. IF they have changed the genitic code for increased healing abilities, maybe they also have found a way to accelerate growth without cancer formation to a particular age. Maybe they also figured out how to make men more fertile and maybe some tinkering they did to the human genome also genically altered pregnancy in a way that forces a woman die in the 2nd trimester.... WAIT A MINUTE - if CLONES are true how does that explain women getting preggers off the island are able to deliver the child while women who get preggers on the island die... ahh LOST how I live thee..

Edit: I skipped a about 20 posts when I typed this so yeah, what Josh said and jeez I have spent 30 minutes catching up on this thread, there goes my lunch break

Hmmmm,
Perhaps:
DARMA Initiative started by HANSO to research the numbers and to try and change the equation.
An incident that released "smokey" and smokey gets rid of anyone who has killed which is what DARMA was working on in order to change equation. ( an impartial morality judge)
Others are folks left behind who haven't killed.
Ben is afraid of Locke and want to trick him into killing Dad so he won't get past Smokey.
Island has magnetic field that hides island and helps cure.
Hurley is big boned not fat so retains his girth.

Ok , let's run with these clone ideas ....
Some of the "others" are clones .. The plane crashers & others such as Juliette are not...
The clones genetic makeup is tied somehow to the island .. This is why Ben said something to the effect that "He never has & never can leave the island"
Pregnancy=death only affects a clone, this is why Sun won't die.
Smokie is a remote alien "probe" killing what it percieves as imperfect clones.

I think the whole clone business is way to complicated an answer. As questions have been posed and answered on Lost over time, most of the explanations have been much simpler than what people here theorized (me included). I think that Naomi and Locke's dad were fooled by fake news footage or the group that was searching for flight 815 was fooled by fake wreckage and bodies (the former more likely) just as many have said on here. Clones are fun to talk about, but there is probably a really REALLY slim chance clones have anything to do with Lost.

The answers/explanations may not always work in the real world, but I think they have been more basic than most of the extravagant theories I read on message boards.

Breaking: Major Changes Ahead for Lost
by Kristin Veitch

ABC is set to announce that Lost will end production after two more seasons.

This is what my E! Online partner in crime Marc Malkin just announced in his column, Planet Gossip.

I know. Breathe, Lost fans. Breathe.

Here's what I can tell you. I just spoke to insiders at ABC and they tell me it's true: The network and producers have reached a decision on an end date and they are expected to announce it in the next two weeks. This is meant to be a good thing, because now the producers finally can start mapping out the remaining episodes and start rolling out some of the major reveals and answers we fans have been waiting for.

I'm also told there are more big changes in store for the show!

According to sources, ABC is planning to push back Lost's return date to January of next year in order to air new episodes back-to-back, and it is also "extremely likely" that Lost will change time slots next season.

^^Ya-hooo!!! This is what I've been hoping for with LOST. A five-year plan with a definitive end-point. This could make the next 2 seasons so great! Certainly, they have enough to work with now....

Even better, hopefully this will be the first of many shows to declare they won't just limp on forever, or as long as decent ratings can keep them afloat, but will end in a logical and organic fashion. In fact, it may give new life to the serial genre that's been beaten up so badly this year. (I only watch serials; procedurals bore me.)

Definitely, this is great news, any attempt at a serial style show must have an endgame planned, and the sooner an end date is set, the better as it should make the story/plot much easier to manage and be intelligently written without needless filler just to complete a network seasonal episode buy order.

Jack and Juliet have compared notes. He knows pregnant women on the island die.

Jack cares for Kate (as well as others, but especially Kate).

If Kate is pregnant, he will do anything in his power to save her and Sun. Including working with the "Others" to find a cure for the problem.

I'm not sure how any reasonable person, Lostie or otherwise, would be upset if indeed this is why Jack is working with the Others. He is still about the business of doing no harm.

January is a mistake ....
They complained this year about losing viewers/ratings with a long hiatus ...
Put the shows on starting around Sept or OCT, with only the Xmas week & possibly Thanksgiving week as a break...
Many "regular" viewers lose interest, forget plotlines &/or get comfortable with other/new shows in the timeslot when they "shelve" a show too long ...

Peter, we're talking apples and oranges here. My point is, and has been, that I think Jack and Juliet are covertly working together for the benefit of the Losties, and to the detriment of Ben and the 'bad' (and I'm making that distinction, because I don't think they all are bad) Others. BTW, which do you think is really stronger: Jack's concern for Kate, or Juliet's guilt/sorrow for being unable to overcome the pregnancy problems and uncertainty as to the fate of her sister?

More breaking news for Lost: The producers have announced that the series finale of Lost will be left open-ended, so they can follow it up with a Lost movie franchise, just like the one that worked so successfully for X-Files.

Tell that to the 24 producers. Although they're having a down year this year, last year was their highest rated season ever. And they've aired their eps this way since day one.

The fact is Lost sucked something awful to start this season, and that's why people lost interest. The schedule has little to do with that.

Assuming Locke's father was "really" Locke's father & not a clone/robot/ghost, ....
Did he arrive "earlier" on the sub, before it blew up, & has been held for a while, or does "Man of His Word" Ben have another way to get to civilization besides the sub, & didn't offer it to Jack once the sub was out of the picture ...??

No, no, and for emphasis, NO. I love this move.

Being as my wife and I are the only people on the planet that haven't watched one episode of The Sopranos, this will allow us time to finish Netflixing the series, which starts this summer.

Great! Would love to hear definitive word that there will be 5 and only 5 seasons. 10pm is too late, and powerball drawings interrupt the last 20 seconds sometimes, and next weeks preview. As for not starting till January?

There's a slight difference, in that 24 doesn't have much continuity from season to season like Lost does. The storyline gets wrapped up every year with the 24th episode, and generally the next season takes place a considerable amount of time after the last one. Lost, on the other hand, has a much more demanding sense of continuity from one season to the next, and a long gap between seasons may cause some fans to lose interest.

Not saying it couldn't work, just that it's going to be more problematic for Lost than for 24.

Also, 24 didn't adopt its January to May "non-stop season" schedule until Season 4.

Not true at all. The first season of 24 had reruns... although not as many because the original start date of the show was pushed back. (It was originally set to air on 9/11/2001. It actually started on November 6th... and featured a terrorist blowing up a plane in the first episode.)

Seasons 2 and 3 featured "no commecial breaks" in the season openers... after 10 minute commercials by Ford. But the seasons also had reruns. The "non-stop season" didn't start until season 4.

So Lost is actually following suit by going non-stop in season 4. Good thing they won't be having a Season 6 of Lost, considering how crappy 24 has become this year.
