‘Thursday Night Football’ goes out on top
Final CBS game posts a 13.6 in metered-market households
By Toni Fitzgerald, Media Life Magazine - Oct. 24, 2014

A highly anticipated matchup between the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos, two of the NFL’s top teams, boosted ratings for the final “Thursday Night Football” game on CBS and NFL Network.

“Thursday Night Football” averaged an 11.4 rating for seven games with simulcasts on CBS and NFL Network.
Theres actually 1 more CBS/NFLN game on saturday night dec 20 most likely chargers/49ers that counts as TNF since its an 8 game package.

TNF also has a 5.8 18-49 avg which is the #2 broadcast show of the year with SNF being #1.

2014

BIANCULLI’S BEST BETS

2014 WORLD SERIES
Fox, 8:00 p.m. ET

And now it’s Game 4, with the San Francisco Giants enjoying its second home-field advantage against the Kansas City Royals – with the changes in designated-hitter roles that apply. Play ball! Again!

DOCTOR WHO
BBC America, 9:00 p.m. ET

Last week, the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) couldn’t exit the TARDIS, because of a shift in space-time dimensional relative reality. (You had to be there.) Tonight, he can exit his time-and-spaceship – and when he does, he returns to a familiar place, Trafalgar Square in London. But it’s in a very unfamiliar condition. As in, terribly overgrown with foliage.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
NBC, 10:00 p.m. ET

Here’s another gem of an SNL vintage rerun: Tom Hanks is the host of this show, guest hosting in 1990, just two years after making the shift from Bosom Buddies to movie star as the big-screen star of Big. The young kid showed such promise. Whatever happened to him? The musical guest is Aerosmith – so watch this 1990 edited-down installment and realize that decades in Steven Tyler’s future is a gig as judge on American Idol.

THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW
BBC America, 10:00 p.m. ET

Okay, this is ridiculous. I know I keep talking about how this show lands such good guests, and does such good things once it lands them. But check out tonight’s lineup: Not only Robert Duvall and Robert Downey, Jr., who are on a movie publicity tour, but Stephen Fry – and U2. With a lineup like that, and a host like Norton, I’ll be there. And U2 should be watching….

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
NBC, 11:30 p.m. ET

The vintage SNL program is in prime time. The new one is saved for later – for 11:30 p.m. ET. And tonight, after a week off, Saturday Night Live returns with guest host Jim Carrey, who for years spread his wings, and demonstrated his talents, on a rival sketch-comedy series, Fox’s In Living Color. Tonight’s musical guest: Iggy Azalea.

'Constantine' Makes a Solid Debut, World Series Continues
By Michael O'Connell, The Hollywood Reporter's 'Live Feed' Blog - Oct. 25, 2014

NBC upped Friday's drama options last night with the return of Grimm and its latest play for a genre companion at 10 p.m., Constantine.

The pair were the strongest scripted series of the night, as Grimm topped with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 in its live-plus same day showing. That's off three-tenths of a point from the last premiere for the heavily time-shifted series. As for Constantine, the premiere was about as solid as the network could have hoped for with a 1.4 rating and 4.3 million viewers. It retained nearly all of its demo lead-in but did shed 1 million viewers.

Fox's continued coverage of the World Series will emerge as the big winner of the night once final ratings arrive on Monday, displacing perennial Friday victor ABC. Shark Tank held steady against the lifted competition, pulling a 1.8 rating in the key demo. Comedies Last Man Standing (1.1 adults) and Cristela (1.0 adults) were each off two-tenths of a point from their most recent showings.

The Amazing Race didn't sustain last week's big lift. CBS' reality competition was off four-tenths of a point from last week to a 1.0 rating with adults under 50. Dramas Hawaii Five-0 (1.1 adults) and Blue Bloods (1.3 adults) were both on par with last week.

Over on the CW, America's Next Top Model was even with a 0.3 rating in the key demo.

TV Review
Adult Swim’s ‘Mike Tyson Mysteries’
By Brian Lowry, Variety.com - Oct. 24, 2014

Silliness is an admirable quality, but to borrow a boxing metaphor, jabbing away with that alone represents a rather slim arsenal. Yet into the ring steps “Mike Tyson Mysteries,” the latest round in the former heavyweight champ’s gradual transformation into a hip entertainment commodity, from “The Hangover” movies to his one-man show (and HBO special) and now this Adult Swim animated series, which casts Tyson at the center of a Scooby-Doo-like spoof. Filled with non sequiturs and raunchy dialogue, the show’s reception should closely correlate with the level of illicit substances ingested by its audience.

Writer-producer Hugh Davidson (“The Looney Tunes Show”) extracts the expected fun from the animated Tyson garbling the English language (or for that matter, trying to say “Chupacabra”), while surrounding the boxer’s alter ego with a Mystery Team consisting of the Ghost of the Marquess of Queensberry (voiced by Jim Rash), Mike’s adopted Korean daughter Yung Hee (Rachel Ramras) and a pigeon who was once a man (Norm Macdonald). The angry bird talks about, among other things, masturbating, which, without being too much of a stickler about avian anatomy, appears problematic.

If you’re still reading this, then the absurdity of the premise hasn’t completely scared you away. But the show ratchets up its oddness-quotient with an opening plot that involves a mystery tied to author Cormac McCarthy, and a second episode (they run just 15 minutes) that seems to have been built solely around a joke about “Searching for Bobby Fischer.”

Those who have willingly accepted Tyson back into the cultural mainstream — as an item of kitsch or sheer fascination — might wind up scratching their heads over the series’ motivation, which, as the episodes are constructed, feels like the entire point. And while there’s precedent for that, it feels like slim compensation even in such a modest package.

Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim umbrella has obviously carved out a niche among young guys by being outlandish, and “Mike Tyson Mysteries” certainly fits the bill. That said, if viewers pass out while watching it, one suspects it won’t be the zing of the jokes that delivers the knockout punch.

'Mike Tyson Mysteries'
Adult Swim, Mon. Oct. 27, 10:30 p.m.
