This game was not listed as an HD broadcast, but it sure looks good.
Is this an example of the FOX upconvert from 480?

Yes, it was an upconvert. Unfortunately, the Cubs/Astros game looked like a 480p upconvert even though it was supposedly in HD.

I think it was in HD It looked as good as the All Star Game did. The ASG was in HD and it was broadcast from San Francisco. So I figure they should have the ability to show the game in HD.

It wasn't....

Sure... they have the ability to do more than 1 game in HD.... they just chose not to (probably because the cost isn't justified)

LA vs SF WAS NOT IN HD on FOX. The only FOX HD game was Houston Astros at Chicago Cubs.

All opinions expressed (unless otherwise noted) are the posters and NOT the posters employers. The poster in NO WAY is/will speak for his employers.

This exemplifies why true HD pretty much remains a fond memory for the foreseeable future. Once you see a non-compressed non-bitstarved 19.39 HD telecast, 14 or 15, much less 8 or 9 Mbps, has completely inferior PQ!

No kidding! Maybe they were watching on very small screens. Clearly (or not so clearly) the St. Louis/Phillie game was not in HD.

Get with the program Fox! It's not like football has already started!

I have a 50" Panny and I think I know what HD is. Now maybe NYC didn't show it in HD, but in L.A. you now have 2 people saying it was in HD.

Sorry you can't believe us.

We also have a FOX engineer confirming in this thread that it wasn't even shot in HD. Not to mention the foxsports link indicating that the LA/SF was not the HD game of the week.

But probably shot with HD cameras, which can better utilize the 601 bandwidth.

Only saw in-game highlights (and Bonds ABs) - definitely not HD... considering I could easily compare it to the actual HD broadcast of the Cubs/Astros game.

Maybe so. Either way, it wasn't broadcast in HD.

I didn't see what LA had on the air, but I did see it from the SF FOX affiliate, and it was widescreen SD. Why would FOX produce the game in HD, but then only provide that to KTTV, giving everyone else SD?? KTTV gets FOX from the satellite feed as everyone else.

At least now Fox is using component backhauls. The previous season's composite backhauls were very easy to identify as WS SD.

As the OP to this thread, let me clarify that this broadcast did look pretty good.
I was not implying that it looked to be HD quality, but I have seen some supposedly HD broadcasts look much worse than this.
