I still love the silly show. I don't know why Hank's womanizing and substance abuse still make me laugh but they do. David Duchovny is an incredibly charming fellow and keeps interesting a character who without him would by this time no doubt either repulse or bore me.

Can't get enough of Pamela Adlon either, she's been great on Louie this season as well.

Duchovny plays Hank perfectly. And Runkle is just a classic character. The whole cast is great. Love the guest stars too. I just watched the episode with Hurley playing a drug dealer. Should have had Hank bring him a bucket of Mr. Clucks Chicken.

Could not agree more. Pamela Adlon is spectacular on this show. She was also on a couple episodes of the late and lamented "Rake" and was just great playing off Greg Kinnear and Miranda Otto.

Could have it been better? Of course. But it seemed true to Hank.

I would have liked to see Hank propose saying it could be our wedding gift to Becca and watch Karen throw the ring back at him.

yeah, I'd go with a season or two too long. The Levon character was awful and annoying.

Runkle and Marcy were always great though.

I agree. Runkle and Marcy were great from beginning to end. Although I thought the idea of having Hank encounter a previously unknown love child was a good idea, the casting of the pudgy little actor who played Levon was an epic fail, it seemed to me. Not only did his short stature and unprepossessing looks strain credibility, considering what his parents looked like, I thought the character was indeed "awful and annoying."

The unknown love child might have been a good idea in a previous season but not in the last season. The whole thing just took time away from Marcy and Runkle to an extant and he was annoying. Plus like you observed it would be hard for two people that look like Hank and Julia to have such a dumpy looking kid. I thought the plot was thrown in as another obstacle to keep Karen and Hank apart for ten or so episodes. Didn't really care all that much for the ending but wasn't surprised by it either. Don't see Hank being faithful for long if at all, though he did restrain himself by Hank's standards this season.
