Reviving this classic thread in case some missed this item in the "Hot off the Press" section. Looks like "Everybody Loves Raymond" will be the next syndicated show to be available in HD:

That's encouraging. Here are some syndicated shows I'd like to see in HD

Oprah
Live with Regis and Kelly
Martha Stewart
Entertainment Tonight (heard this one's coming sometime in 08)
The Insider
Access Hollywood
Dr.Phil
Judge Judy
Rachael Ray

I know some of you will probably laugh at some of my choices. And in truth, some of the ones I mentioned really don't need the HD treatment. Still, I hope Syndicated TV makes a big splash in the near future and Everybody Loves Raymond could do the trick.

Nice! Are you gonna run the HD and SD versions simultaneously, or will you downconvert the HD for your SD viewers? We'll will be doing the former, as we only have one HD server, and if it takes a dump, we got nothin' ...

Still hate the show, but more HD is never a bad thing. It will be interesting to get reports on what stations air this in HD -- we know that in the case of "Two and Half Men," the number is very small, as it is (or at least was) only available as a file. "Ray" on the other hand is a satellite feed, like "Wheel" and "Jeopardy." Seems more stations can deal with that.

Single record and playback..from the HD feed via XdCamHd..the XdCam does an excellent job of downconverting to SD 4x3 centercut..Once you add an Evertz caption bridge to wrap CC into the SD that is..

We have mirrored Omneon Spectrum HD Servers for each station, but I don't see the sense to take all the time to dub, mark, and play from server just so someone doens't have to switch air. Once we get file transfer from the XdCam into the Spectrums' working, that may be a different story.

They recut it from the original film elements using the edit data from the video sessions. It's already been done.

Has that been done for all the sitcoms from the 1990's, or just Seinfeld?

I'd really like to see Friends in HD aswell.

Not until all the DVD season sets have been on the market for long enough for people to buy them, give them as Xmas & birthday presents and for the sales to drop off. Then bring out the Blu-Ray season box sets in HD for the ye old double dip. Combine the announcement of the HD season Blu-Ray sets with release of the HD syndicated versions for the synergy! Maybe this fall, but probably later. Cynical maybe, but probably their plan if they have one.

Hey Marcus, don't tell TBS that they're not showing HD. I emailed them and they said that they WERE showing HD! I emailed back and asked if they were intentionally not telling the truth or that they don't know what HD programming is. No reply.

With the recent format war over and Blu-ray on top, they could begin selling at least season one of Seinfeld in Blu-ray, as well as other popular shows like Frasier, Friends, etc..

How about some reports of "Everybody Loves Raymond" HD sightings from various markets? Or just as interesting, non-sightings. I'll start: Was in HD at 5:00 and 7:30 on KTXL in Sacramento. Looked nice.

I am surprised, but WDCA My 20 in Washington DC is showing Raymond in HD at 10 PM ET. Now how about some hour long syndicated series originally shot in HD such as the Stargate Atlantis and SG-1 series, Star Trek, CSI reruns and so on? Still this is progress.

Well, it definitely wasn't in HD on My Network 13 here in Los Angeles. Very disappointed since my DVR remote suggested it would be in HD

Channel 9 in Australia is airing Seinfeld in 16:9 HD. Most of the shots look alright although in some you can see the headroom is cut off a little.

No HD on KTVK or KASW here in Phoenix. Sent an email to my contact at the station asking if they have plans. They currently air Two and a Half Men in SD because they can't play out HD from their Pathfire server, but the satellite feed for Raymond might give them a better shot. KTVK does the news in HD and the entire setup for both stations was upgraded a year ago to HD capability so I'm still hopeful that they will give us some more HD soon.

That is surprising, considering there is almost no other HD programming on WDCA. I guess that being an O&O helps. They will be carrying a handful of Nationals games in HD this season, as well.

WB is now providing a satellite feed for Two and a Half Men because of the problems most stations have with playing HD from Pathfire. Because of this change, KTVK/KASW are now able to carry that in HD and are doing so as of last night, and they will have Raymond going by the end of the week.

The SD video is MPEG-2 4:2:2 720x512. Got this from a contact at Paramount Stage 30 ages ago. Don't know the bitrate. Don't know about the HD video, as it came after I talked with him. Haven't called him in ages. Gotta do that someday.

1) I don't care for the show to start with and
2) It is in widescreen presentation, instead of the OAR. Chopping off the top and bottom to make it widescreen is just plain dumb.

If the production company isn't going to do OAR, they shouldn't even bother.

In fairness, you will always run up against the people who cannot differentiate HD from 16:9. Sometimes it is just easier to surrender to the dumb.
