Best answer: In between the "future" depicted in T1 and the future depicted in T2, the machines developed new metal alloys that can be transported through the time portal without human flesh. However, the portal still has a limitation on being able to send chemicals or complex moving parts, so they can't bring weapons with them (*). Clothing is also still out.

*This doesn't at all explain how the T-X in Terminator 3 could have a flamethrower in her arm.

Except for in the original Terminator, when the T-800 was killed by a hydraulic press in the end.

Ahh, but they could have sent the T-1000 through the time portal with a temporary coat of human skin, and he sheds it when he arrives. Not that they showed it on camera or explained it or anything, but hey it could happen.

This is a terminology question and I wasn't sure exactly what it means.

Are the Terminators considered true machines or are they cyborgs? I'm not sure if their definition of cyborg is part human/part machine. My question came up during the scene where the Terminator scans Summer Glau and cyborg appears in the display. Is she a true machine or a cyborg?

Could make for some steamy human/half-human love.

huge drop in the ratings from Sunday to Monday.....the show lost half its audience.

Let's see how it holds up week to week -- if they lose more viewers next week, look out.

That was expected without the NFL lead in. The very positive news is that it dramatically built on the Prison Break audience, so the viewers came for Terminator.

I interpreted that to mean that in 1999, she had six years before she died from cancer in 2005, probably getting no treatment whatsoever (avoiding doctors, etc.). Now that she has jumped to 2007, she still has six years before the cancer would kill her, but now she might be able to postpone or defeat it by getting proper treatment in a timely manner.

I wanna make sure I got this time line stuff straight. In this new time line, Sarah never died of cancer. She simply disappeared in 1999. So when people recognize her, they're not seeing a dead woman, just a woman who disappeared seven or eight years ago or so, right? Right?

NOW: my post on AVS Forum.

Yes, that is correct. It just leaves the question open on if this is new chance to evade the cancer or will the cancer still get her- just on a different date. Maybe the cancer in the old timeline was just the happenstance matter of one wrong cell division (butterfly effect). So by skipping that event, the cancer never begins? ...or maybe the cancer is an inherent component to her physicality all along, so it will develop at some point, no matter what?

Yep they just vanished and showed up 8 years later. That's why John Connor got that response from Ryan O'Reily - Sarah could get away with looking the same, but a 16 year old should have been 25 when he showed up at his house.

That's the problem with this series. We know Sarah to be a total bad-mofo, gun-weilding wench who's emotionally detached from her son. And he is a snarky, smart-mouthed SOB hacker who doesn't give a fr@k. We see none of that here. The actor playing John is mostly channeling his Zach character from Heroes.

If the actors stepped it up, this show would be so much more interesting.

That was a freaky moment when they make reference to Sarah Conner first learning of the Trade Towers (since they jumped around that time period) being told to her as a story. It's a really good point made, that such an event could sound utterly fantastic (not in a good way) for someone not having witnessed it by their own observation.

The head signalling the body reminded me of 'Iron Giant' when it was blown up and signaled for all its parts to come together.

One thing really bugging me (other then the headless terminator gag) is that John is suppose to be this hacker whiz and good with computers but, seems to not know what "clear you history" meant in the computer store. Technically 1999 is not that long ago and clearing your history is nothing new. Computers really haven't changed that much since 1999. Yes they have gotten faster and more streamlined but, the core operation and design hasn't changed too much.

I really liked the T1 and T2 movies...even T3 was "likeable". So far, I have really enjoy the series, the actors selected to play their roles, and the multiple timeline consequences. I think everyone would enjoyed this series a little better if they take it for what it is ....a better than average television Sci-Fi series. I often think a few folks over analyze way too often and try to make the story lines fit reality...it's Sci-Fi.

Or Cleaver, that movie within the final Sopranos season. The mobster is killed, chopped up and put in different dumpsters all around the city, only to find out that all these dumpsters end up in the same garbage dump. The dead mobster re-connects with the rest of his body parts and comes back to life killing the other mobsters that put him there in the first place

I missed the first few minutes of the Pilot, so I didn't realize that the timeline was after T2 so I made the comment to my wife that this must be Sara Conner before she went whacko.

finalluy got to watch ep. 2 last night(avoided this topic all day yesterday). It's becoming a unhinged theory of mine that summer's model was based on what may be revealed to be john's unborn sister/stepsister. My weak at best evidence so far is Dixon still being kept in the storyline. Plus summer's model having so much insight on john and sarah. Again this a very weak theory backed up by little but considering we don't have a whole lot of info yet just a wild guess. BTW I thought it was awesome that the terminator summer fought in the safehouse noticed that it had no clue what kind of cyborg she was and decided it had to run away.
