According to your post, NBC will have two HD games, not one.

And, if I'm reading it right...CBS will have 5 HD games...not 3. But, I may be reading it wrong...

Will John Madden ever go away? Now in HD he looks so terrible with all the make up. That is on top of his very poor commentary. Let someone else have a turn....

No one seems to be concerned that DirecTV is using the same HD channels for both the early games and late games. These games constantly run over and it feels like DirecTV is dismissing the HD customers with this move.

The game I'm second-most interested in (TEN/JAX) is the only one in SD :/ maybe next week...

I'm longing for a day when all severe weather coverage is on the subchannel...

I still don't understand why those of us in the NYC area don't get an early game from Fox. With the Giants playing the national game Sunday night, I was looking forward to the double header.

Does any know why?

The Jets are playing on CBS in the 1 PM slot. No game is allowed to compete with a home team's game in the home market. This applies for all teams not just New York. Similar blackouts are in place in Cleveland, Washington, Buffalo, Houston, and Jacksonville during week 1.

Because the Jets are home. NFL TV rules prevent another game from being shown at the same time as a local team's sold out home game. If the Jets were on the road then Fox could show a game.

Just to add:

Basically.... as a New Yorker - you want to hope that the NY team playing at home is on the "doubleheader network" or national TV on a particular week in order to get the "maximum" games.
The Jets are at home on the singleheader network this week - so that means there is a blackout on the doubleheader network.
(This actually also applies to the Bay Area teams... no other market has a 2 team problem like this... the other 28 home markets only have to worry about 1 team....)

I brought this up a few weeks ago in another thread when D* announced the channel numbers for ST and it was clear they did not have enough assigned for all of the HD games.

I'm very concerned about run-over. Early games that just plain run late or go into OT will wipe out almost an entire quarter of the late game HD feed assigned the same channel.

Looks like another good time to have OTA in the Balt/DC area.

Going to sign up for Dish Network? PM me for a ClubDish referral number that will give you a $50 credit on your first bill.

The NFL does a good job of scheduling to reduce the number of times this happens. I put together some statics either last year or the year before that and the New York market was below the league wide average for number of weeks having a game blackedout because of this rule. I'll look later if I can find the exact numbers.

Yeah - I do remember seeing the blackout #s (I guess they were yours)

I used to think they were doing a better job - but this year it looks bad - I think as of now (depending on flex weeks) NYC is missing out on 8 doubleheaders - all in the first 12 weeks....

1 - 2 - 3 - 6 - 8 - 9 - 11 - 12

One should "expect" - in a normal 1 team city - to miss 4 doubleheaders on average (ignoring games on national tv)...
Of the 8 - NYC loses 6 doubleheaders thanks to the Jets - and 2 thanks to the Giants

Well... I'm just talking about the standard TV blackout.... the second type based on ticket sales is another issue entirely (and something the Raiders obviously have a problem with).... which I could explain if you want....

(that's obviously not an issue in NYC... as both the Giants and Jets have very very very long waiting lists for season tickets)

No need.

I already understand it and I'm pretty sure there aren't any Raider fans on this forum.

Seeing less of the Raiders on TV is a good thing...

Ok I found the numbers.

NYC was under the league average in 2005, with 3 blackouts.

Last year NYC had 5 blackouts. The league average was 3.63 blackouts per city over the year. The average was 3.42 subtracting out NYC and the Bay Area. However, last year week 17 was a doubleheader week for both FOX and CBS which increased the total number of blackouts.

I do agree as it stands now the number of blackouts for NYC this year does not look good.

I'm just glad to see CBS stepped up to the plate and opened their wallets to finally get more HD games. They have the best HD picture in the NFL.
