Yes. It was fun! That large co-owner guy was a real plonker! Looked like he was going to assault GR a couple of times. His behavior (especially in front of customers and with the debt collector) was so extreme you had to wonder if it was all contrived for the camera.

Bill collector......he sure didn't look like a Discover Card bill collector.

My wife and I watched it last night. I honestly thought they would make Ramsay out to be more of a monster. But I was pleasantly surprised they didn't. The only thing I wished they would do is let Ramsay do the narration instead of that other guy, and have a followup part of the episode where they came back to see how they were doing like the ones on BBC.

I'd be happy if they had a re-visit on all of them at the end.

Good episode and great PQ for SD.

Agreed, it would be great to have Revisited eps like in the UK series.

Debt collector - not bill collector. I don't think he represents an organization that sends bills.

Revisted is a must. The way the show is edited, it reminds me of one of the Stargates where they dig a hole deeper and deeper and when you see there's only 5 minutes left, you just know it's going "To Be Continued".....but somehow they wrap it all up too conveniently by the end.

No way that pompous a-hole was either that bad in the beginning - or became that cooperative by the end.

My wife and I are huge fans of the BBC original, but the editing in this version drove us nuts.

Did anyone else notice that GR presented the brand-new kitchen mid-way through the episode, yet when they created the new menu....it was on the old equipment?

Was that an E-Class Merc that Tony was driving? What do they go for? $60K+? Heck, even the debt collector drove a Lexus LS430. The debt collection business in that part of Long Island must be good!
Btw, did anyone see the RKN episode on BBC America in which the owner of a failing restaurant was driving a #50K (# = British pound currency) BMW M3 with an expensive vanity plate? So much for priorities.

Though the "BBC Original" is only a "BBC America original" - the UK show is actually nothing to do with the BBC domestically. It is commissioned by Channel Four (a rival terrestrial network to the BBC) from an independent production company (who do make other shows for the BBC)

Quite a few shows broadcast on BBC America are not original BBC productions or even BBC commissions!

I think it was A1 CHEF (or maybe A1 6HEF). He was the chef that was classically trained by a local cab driver I believe.

Why is this thread here if the show is produced in SD? Shouldn't it be banished to the AVS hinterlands where all such threads go to die?

It's in widescreen. That's been deemed OK for the forum.

Yeah, I thought the picture quality was very good too. And the co-owner (Peter?) was over the top, but it appeared to me that he was probably acting normally (for him). The tour through the walk-in fridge was pretty disgusting . . .

I didn't stop to notice whether it was in HD after I saw it was in widescreen.

As for the show, the BBC one is better (as usual). I really like GR doing the narrating, and the show is more about the food than the affair. The FOX version is all about the affair and very little about the food.

I also felt it was an extreme cop-out for the show to gift the restaurant all new equipment That's unrealistic. They should have made that guido sell his S-class Merc for $24K to put into the kitchen.

All in all...gotta love GR. He's harsh and critical but has a warm heart and knows he can help. In this time of political correctness, it's so refreshing to see how useful tough love can be.

I bet this will be common on the U.S. version. This show can't have very high production costs. The only on-screen person they have to pay is GR, and other than that it's just crew members. I don't think there's any way that restaurant would have been able to afford that type of new equipment on their own.

For kicks, I looked up their inspection report. Dillons (the old place) was closed down by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygenie on April 26, 2007. Their inspection score was an astonishing 113. The average in NYC is a 14. 28 is a failing score. I think the worst you can do is 175.

It wouldn't suprise me if the restaurant was already shut down when they were filming.

Yeah. I was wondering last night about where the NYC Board of Health fit into the picture.

Attention - and to "punish" FOX by letting the viewers know "how the sausage is made" through court papers.

I think most viewers realize how much scripting is involved with all reality shows - so I doubt he's going to get much satisfaction.

Sometimes you do not know what is going on in the kitchen before they get your food to you. This restaurant is a prime example of ignorance being bliss. I am surprised that waitress stuck up for that guy. It could have been some creative editing.

Why would a owner agree to be on this show when his restaurant was such a disaster??

I wouldn't eat at the OLD Dillon's or the NEW Dillon's. There is an assumed level of restaurant competency when one eats out, how this place expects to get that trust with the same owner/cooks/management that let that let the building become infested with bugs, rats, mice and let rotten food be served to customers escapes me.
