Oh and after all the finagling around to make sure everything got recorded tonight, the dish went out for nearly 10 minutes because of rain again and I ended up watching the first 30 minutes of 'The Intruders' online LOL and recorded the 11:00 pm ET showing of Outlander, geez things were not gonna go my way tonight.
I like the PQ of DTV just fine, better than Comcast from which I switched. My only complaint is the hangups with the remote--on changing channels, or when it ceases to respond to any remote commands for 10 or more secs before it comes back to life.

Sums me up.

14 years with D*, not changing anytime soon (thanks to PQ, channels), but the equipment is buggy as hell

Quit failing to flip the switch

It is great. When I came over to D* from E* 15 months ago it was easy for me to see the difference. DirecTV also had ESPNU and my RSN in HD 24/7. Both of those were huge additions that E* wasn't offering at the time. Customer service is never perfect, we can always bitch about that, but my experiences with D* have been nothing but positive. It appears they actually care. I can also understand what they are saying; I can't say the same thing about Dish. I had some very frustrating phone conversations with their customer support. I do wish all companies would do away with those damn touchtone prompts and get back to live individuals. I've seldom been as frustrated as I am when dealing with those prompts. I love the HR44. I'd just like to see a couple of changes made that would benefit everyone and I'd be good to go.

This is off topic, but I can't even get to a thread at dbstalk.com. Has anyone had any trouble getting to dbstalk.com?? I was wanting to check out some threads over there and every thread I click on I get the big warning about this being a possible attack page or something to that effect. I get this on every thread I've tried so far:

It's an issue they're working on, but you can still get to the site by clicking on the "ignore warning"

Is it safe? Do you visit there and have you had any issues?

Yes, it's perfectly safe.

Google identified an ad as spam (which it wasn't) and set up that warning.

All ads have since been removed from the site, but Google hasn't stopped the notifications.

Ouch, that has to be costing them some money, no ads at all and that big attack page warning. That sux for them.

Went to friend's house last weekend....he has AT&T....HD looked mediocre at best for 1080i....thought maybe his new Samsung 64F8500 was not all that since it didn't look that great in the stores either for broadcast TV....but when put in a recorded 1080i broadcast from DirecTV,the picture was SIGNFICANTLY better.

I'd be happy to avoid all that by having them give me back the single button to get to the "To Do" list. Heck, it was bad enough when thye made turning on captions around 8 button presses. I really hate having to slog through the menu system to check what is scheduled to record.

While I'm complaining, why can't you start a show late and end it early? The only way is through some laborious manual record.[/QUOTE]
I really hate that. I can start early and end late, but start late or end early apparently has been outlawed by the TV Powers That Be for some reason.

Stuff like that makes me really miss my old UltimateTV. While it would warn you of a conflict, it would let you resolve it by various means, including starting late or ending early. It would also automatically pad a minute at the beginning and 5 minutes at the end if the tuner wasn't needed for another show. That five minute pad saved me multiple times from breaking news reports and very short live program overruns.

They added the ability to get to manage recordings for the genies. Do a keyword search for menusc. After you're done push the menu button and then 7. I don't remember all of them but they added functions for menu 0-9.

If you have a remote that can be programmed with a "sequence" that's an option as well. I programmed my Harmony 880 with a sequence(the button presses used to get to the TDL) and now I just press one button to get to my TDL.
sangs likes this.

Where is twitter burning up at? I'm not finding anything

Edit: Never mind, it just came on. I'm sure the Directv phone lines were blowing up too.

Well I got a call from DirecTV. They just gave me Sunday Ticket for free this season for being a loyal customer since 1994.

I've been a "loyal" customer since 1995. I guess that doesn't count.

Been having video/audio sync problems for a week or more on CBS. I'm in the Ft Lauderdale area. Watching the US Open I'm hearing the ball struck before it ever gets to the racket.
This is a new one.

Anyone see/hear this ?

Other channels seem normal.

Baby, remember...It's my life and I'll do what I want!

Lucky you, I'm still trying to get it for free with no luck. Even contacted customer retention since my contract is up and no luck. I will try to get Red Zone for free at least.

Is Red Zone available as a stand alone package, normally?

You can get it stand alone though, they gave it to me without even asking for it. It was thrown in as some sort of consolation when they couldn't give me the price I wanted on a premium channel, and I don't even have Sunday Ticket.

If you're interested in it it's worth just asking to see if you can get it.

It's pretty funny. They've offered me Sunday Ticket for free twice and I've turned them down both times. Can't stand the NFL but love college football.

Hi Guys!

Just signed up for DirecTV - dropping ATT Uverse. Waiting for the site visit/install in a few days.

But something the rep claimed is bothering me. She claimed (and also claimed that she was a district manager), that I could watch original programing from premium channels, like Game Of Thrones, on the DirecTV on demand service WITHOUT subscribing to the premium channel.

Is this correct? She said clearly, and I questioned her, that after the 3 month free premium package had expired AND I canceled it that I could still access programming on demand, just 1 week later.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Thanks,

Not true. She either didn't know better, or she lied. I'd guess the former.

Absolutely NOT TRUE. You MUST be a CURRENT SUBSCRIBER to even PLAY On Demand programs PREVIOUSLY DOWNLOADED during your free period. I had downloaded a half dozen The Sopranos episodes during my free period. When I went to play them after the free period was over, they would NOT play. I complained to DirecTV and they gave me a $60 credit so I could turn HBO back on again for several months. Instead, I picked up the DVDs for free at my local library and kept the $60.
