I don't really find much of a thrill in it, either, but at least they haven't needed to raise the basket by two feet for the last, couple or so decades, and it's still played as more of a team game.
They don't cheat and get away with it as much, either. The rules of the game are basically the same as they were 40 years ago, however, in the NBA at least, they're allowed to get away with not adhering to them whenever they feel like it. For instance, I see numerous, blatant incidences of travelling, elbowing and palming the ball while dribbling in the average game now, and they're never penalized, although the rules have never been "officially" changed.
For what's supposed to be a professional, legit sports league, you'd think it was being run by Abe Saperstein.
