Any receiver that you bought years ago won't get you very many of the HD channels in this package. Anyway, the first receiver's fee is included in the cost of the package. You still pay a DVR fee every month for each DVR, and a lease or extra receiver fee for each additional receiver, depending on whether you lease or own the receiver.

Thanks. I guess what I meant to ask was if the monthly service fee was the same whether I purchased my receivers from a dealer or leased them from E? I have heard that the only advantage in purchasing a receiver now is to avoid a 18-24 commitment and the the monthly service charges from E are the same.

Thanks

Mike

Yes, the fees are the same regardless. $5/month for SD receivers, and $7/month for HD receivers.

bhopal21,
i just signed up w/ dish. i have 2 ViP211's. i only pay $5 for the 2nd one. the first one is included in my $30/month. i also don't have a 18 or 24 month commitment. i don't know if the DVR's are any different as far as pricing.

Thanks I appreciate the info.
Here is my situation. I have a 721dvr in the great room, a 301 in the MBR, a 301 in the kitchen and a 502 in the GBR. And what I think I want to do is replace the 721 with the HD722 and replace the 301 in the MBR with the HD211. I think I have a bit of overkill and need to eliminate one receiver to help bring the cost down some.

I think I am going to call tonight and see what dish says. I have been a customer for 10+ years, not that it matters to them. lol

thanks again

Well, back to square one. After 45 minutes on the phone and being disconnected once I got two different prices from two people which could only speak marginal english.

I am going to try and go to a local E retailer today and see someone face to face.

I am a long term Dish customer (since 1997) and have found that if you want to get actual answers from someone here in the States that you can understand, call the technical help line. Make up some dumb ass technical question and then pull an "oh, by the way..." question that you really want answered. This approach has never failed me.

Those companies like Dish that have outsourced most of their customer service business to India are only alienating customers in the process. It is just not worth the "cost savings" if the cost savings COST YOU CUSTOMERS.

It works for them. How many subs actually disconnect their service just because they can't understand the CSR? I'm sure it's saving them big money to outsource.

They don't quantify it, there is no way for them to know that it is costing them business. In a business model where they fluctuate based on their advertising, what deals they are offerring, etc, there is no way for them to know it is hurting them. I'm right there with you though. It's not even the Indian thing directly. I have talked and worked with lots of Indian people, and they speak very well. For me, it's the ones that you either can't understand, or that they don't make sense, or both. It is easy to tell if someone is speaking the language, or repeating what they have been told to say.

Hey Thanks for the heads up TulsaCoker!

I called up Dish to reconfirm - after the install - sure enough, they had tacked on the DVR fee - after spending 10 mins with one CSR and then with the Retention dept - based upon what was originally told to me at the time of signing up - they waived my DVR fee - I am hoping its not just for the first year, though they didnt say anything about that - just that "we will waive it off for you Sir"

I was also able to sign up for the paperless biling and Cinemax for 1C in the came call.

Sorry to instigate a discussion guys, I have no idea what nationality the persons were that I spoke to last evening; but I was very discouraged to go through the phone tree three times and have to wait 4-8 minutes each time only to reach someone that could not communicate with me.

Just to update. After another 40 mins on the phone to God knows where I finally got my E service upgraded to HD and two new Hd receivers (one dvr and one regular) for only a $14 a month increase in my billing. The new HD receivers are $7 per month ($2 more than standard) and $10 per month for the HD programming.

Thanks all for listening to me gripe

On the phone with them now...

We are doing the $29.99/month and they are replacing my SD VIP 625 with VIP 622 at no charge.

Penny/month for Cinemax with paperless billing.

2 year commitment. SUX, but I can live with it.

I'm no expert....so your mileage may vary

I might not be willing to disconnect because I can't understand the CSR, but those freaking voicemail systems that make you talk to them really tick me off.

"Please tell us what you would like to do..."
"Cancel service."
"Did you want to add our Super Premium package of channels for an extra $50 a month?"
"No!"
"I'm sorry, I didn't understand your response. Would you like to hear about our PPV event offerings?"
"No! Cancel service!"
"Before we transfer you to a Customer Service Representative, please tell us, do you enjoy our Voice Response System?
"No!"
"Thank you, we knew you would..."

Don't you have to pay the $5.98 DVR fee? I got the 722 (bigger hard drive) BTW. HD sucks up hard disk space real fast.

Yes, DVR fees don't go away. So $29.99 plus $12 for the 2 DVR monthly fees. $41 for HD and 6 tuners (4 SAT and 2 OTA).

They've activated the USB ports on the 622 now, so if I need more space I can always buy an external HD.

The only thing I'm not happy about is the 2 year commitment. That reeks of fear on their part.

I'm hoping Dish does some catchup to DirecTV...and soon. But in the meantime I'm saving some serious money.

Nobody else finds it ironic that offshore CSR complaints are coming from a member named bhopal21?

I would guess most have no idea what you are talking about, unless they work for Union-Carbide.

All opinions expressed (unless otherwise noted) are the posters and NOT the posters employers. The poster in NO WAY is/will speak for his employers.

Completely unrelated on both accounts I assure you

But I still contend that great communication skills are imperative to good customer service.

No Union Carbide connection here, and I remember the Bhopal tragedy quite clearly. Maybe it's an age thing.

BTW - last numbers I saw showed that the costs of off-shore CS departments are rising, plus with the additional costs associated, the net savings are more along the lines of 6% compared to the 25%-30% initially estimated when this trend began.

Back more on topic - where's F/X on that list above? Was it already added to the lineup?

Just a reminder to post any changes that will affect the list in the first post. We want to make sure that is kept up-to-date.

Are all of these getting added to the $29.99 package, or will it cost more to get these channels?

Has the channel line up changed since the deal was introduced?

Are people calling to get the $0.01 cent cinemax deal added to the $29.99 package?

I was told that if I payed my monthly bill with a credit card, I could get Cinemax for .01. I dunno if it only applies to new customers or everyone.
