doesn't d* have much better pq than e*? from what i've read on the d* thread, their mpeg 4 signal is far superior to e*s.

let's see........ more hd channels with better pq. looks like a pretty easy decision for me when my contract with e* expires in a few months

I'm still waiting. WWE goes HD next week, and Dish still doesn't carry USA. Don't know what the holdup is.

If I do not get the RSNs with the HD only package I guess that rules it out. I watch my USC Trojans on the Fox RSN maybe 4 games a year. Plus I watch Fox News SD. Seems like I am paying alot of money for 4 USC Trojan games and Fox News.

Have any of you dish subscribers ever asked Dish why don't show the HDPPV channels movies in their original aspect ratio. We get the same crap up here on expressvu and it drives me nuts. Who wants to watch a pan and scan or cropped up movie.

Hey Cyclone. I have 76 HD channels on DISH.And no matter how many channels other services carry DISH will always have 15 more because VOOM is exclusive.

Former VOOMER.....now former DISH-er

Crap. I knew it was too good to be true. Now I'd have to keep my family cable to keep my RSN.

I wouldn't make any conclusion yet. As far as I can tell, three possibilities:

These new $30 deal is going to stay a rumor, no more no less
Or it will only contain the national HD channels, no SD, no RSN;
Or it will contain the national HDs, no SDs, and you can still buy any other sports pack and movies packs, but only the HD versions will show up.

Let's wait till February to find out.

You do know that Cablevision also carries Voom right? Still DirecTV is the main focus at this time. I still am not sure which is more valuable. DirecTV's large collection of psueo HD channels, or Voom's HDs of which the average person will only perhaps want 4 of them.

Going to sign up for Dish Network? PM me for a ClubDish referral number that will give you a $50 credit on your first bill.

Even D*'s large collection of HD cablenets (the ones E* doesn't have) probably only has 4 - 6 "must have" channels per household.

I hear you and I don't know myself which is more valuable. All I know is that there is only so much available time in a day to watch TV. I have Dish and only watch two of the Voom channels (Rave quite often and occasionally Monsters). Between the programs on the local channels, sports & HD Net there really isn't much else I need. Watching all 15 isn't necessary IMO to get value out of Voom.

Give me Sci-Fi in HD and my happy camper scenario is complete.

I've made the decision to hold off until the end of the summer to see what shakes out. I have D* for ONLY the NFL package and E* for all else. By then, we should know exactly what will be out there for the foreseeable future.

The litmus test for when E* or D* has adequate bandwidth is when we'll see them both offer east and west coast feeds of, say, HBO. If they have the bandwidth, you'll see as much HD as is out there.

C'mon boys, get them birds up there!

Yes SD DNS is there. I used them when I was doing f2a to watch shows that were at the same time. I'd just jump over to another city and wacth an hour or two later. Not necessary with a multi tuner box like the vip722.

That's why we break them down into categories so people can add up whatever they consider to be "real" channels. If D* added part time RSN's they'd be at 116 channels.

Even the current 90 D* would claim includes 13 PPV and 8 DNS channels that most cannot receive. Even full time RSNs wouldn't make most peoples' list of relevant channels.

Personally, if I'm talking in general terms to somebody, I consider the count D* 58 vs E* 42. If the conversation goes deeper, the discussion goes into the Voom vs. cablenet channels as an additional difference in line up.

Excepting that the only people that receive them all are people who pay for Sport Pack and thus 100% WOULD make their list of relevant channels, exactly the same as any of the movie packages - if you get them you pay for them, and they are relevant, if you don't pay you don't get them and they are not relevant.

Those (movies and Sports Pack) are ALL added tiers, and should be viewed equally.

...or not at all...

I, for one, do take the premium HD channels into separate consideration when evaluating product and don't necessarily count them in with then assessing the base HD offerings in general.

Hey All,

We are a current Dish customer but do not have the HD yet. Is it worth getting in on the current deal with the free Reciever??? Or should we wait to see what they offer
next month or so??

We have Everything they have to offer except the HD now. We are looking down grading to the 250 package and pickup the HD. Real tired of what the Movie chanels are showing for the last few months. Thanks for the info guys.

Maybe it's my own bias, but I view a major Hollywood released movie as more widely relevant than a regional sporting event.

Well the word is out, the $29.99 all HD will be reality, but the $10 all premium movies HD rumor did not, and no RSN and other prepaid sports packs.

All these point to the fact this new pack is aimed to stop people from leaving E*, and there is very little hope any new HDs will be added soon, otherwise they would not have considered this one to stop the exudes.

And this news come at no better timing for us, cuz our DirecTV service is scheduled to be installed tomorrow. We will not turn off E* any time soon, I need to add more D* HDDVRs (up to a total of 4) before we can switch over 100%.

I hope though this process will be short, cuz I sure don't want to pay for two services if I can avoid it.

By the end of 2008 and into 2009 I expect E* to begin adding more HDs, but still going to be behind D* until maybe end of 2009, by that time our D* two-year contract is going to be over. See you then E* It's been a fun ride.
