Lately my DVR programs have been skipping and losing parts of the program due to "signal loss" even when the weather is clear and there was no signal loss while watching regular programming at the same time. Can anyone tell me why this might happen? I have about 18 hours of HD remaining in my memory. Is it getting too full?

I hadn't thought of that. It happens on some recorded programs even when there wasn't an issue while watching live tv during the same time.

Also been getting some interruptions and audio cut outs on Dish lately. Watched American Horror Story off DVR yesterday and there was about a 3 minute section of no audio at all.

Another annoyance and disappointment is that the football games I'm watching on ROOT Sports and ESPNU are in very poor quality standard definition. I guess I should have researched this more before switching to Dish. I got HD receivers and DVR and the HD package so I could watch HD sports, but Dish doesn't broadcast the HD version even though it is being shot in HD. I feel like I'm back in 1998. I guess I should be grateful it's in COLOR. Just very disappointed in that.

I was getting them constantly during the baseball playoff game a couple of nights ago. But I was watching it live.

As far as the flares, this is a peak year (last time was 2000, and it's every 11 years).

This would be that time of the year.

Wouldn't explain only on the DVR, though.

One of my household's ViP622 DVRs is not coming on.
The DVR "resets" itself every 5 minutes. i.e. the fan comes on and makes some "rebooting" noise. The 622's LED light stays blinking green. It blinks like every couple of minutes.

Any ideas? I've already did a "system reboot" aka hold the power button for 10 seconds. I also unplugged the DVR from the wall.

I'm thinking the DVR is damaged.

Thanks for any comments.

Thanks for the posting.

Yeah, I'm thinking about upgrading with two ViP722's. Unless if I'm forced to upgrade, I wonder if they still send out ViP622's.

The only problem with upgrading to the ViP722's is the two-year commitment. Not sure if I wanna make that commitment. Not to mention, the loss of the OTA tuner.

I came home for lunch. Checking the TV and the same problem persists.

Hopefully I do not need to pay for a replacement (not upgrade) HD-DVR.

For 5 years (since I've been with Dish) I've had the $6/month Protection Plan. I removed it 3 weeks ago, and now a receiver goes dead. Sound fishy to anybody? That's how big corporations get ya

I had Dish for 3+ years and never had a replacement plan. During that time I had the VIP722 replaced a couple of times and they wanted to charge shipping fees but credited my account so each time I ended up paying nothing.

I have Dish and I notice that the HD PQ fluctuates noticeably from time to time. I would have several days of pretty good PQ and then suddenly it will deteriorate a bit and good again. Is this typical? Will calling a tech help?

Also my contract is up and I am wondering if I should stick with Dish or switch to Directv. How is the PQ there and does it fluctuate like this. Also does Dish compress the signal more than Directv?

Another issue I am noticing is that on my DVR, it responds to the remote slower during the day and evening, but right around midnight it speeds up notcieably. WTF???

Suggestions welcome.

yeah i noticed my guide and dvr operations have slowed down dramatically.

if i want to set up dvr to record something 2-3 days out it takes like 5 minutes. also noticing skipping and audio dropouts on things i've recorded
on my dvr.

i think something is up as neither of these issues were present a month or so ago.

me too!

i have been getting audio dropouts, failing to record scheduled programs, and dvr operating at a snails pace. it's getting really buggy and almost unworkdable. trying to go through guide to record a show for the next day takes like 10 minutes. and going through guide to see what is on all the other
channels takes like 5 minutes. will have to call dish support if it continues, but dealing with dish support is like having to undergo a root canal.

also, why can't dish upgrade their guide daily instead of once a week. they had brewers/cardinal game time wrong on guide yesterday so i missed the game and recorded a bunch of crap from the time period the guide showed the game was going to be played.

this is really starting to piss me off.

Yesterday, the PQ on Dish was unusually bad, and I noticed it across the board. I do notice the fluctuations the OP mentions from time to time.

It is more than likely the actual source content that is varying, rather than your receiver or Dish's compression. Unless you can record the exact same program on the same channel say weeks apart, you can 't really say for sure.

I think the HDD in my ViP622 may be crapping out. The symptom is that during playback of a program recorded to DVR, the picture will freeze and the receiver will hang until I reboot it manually or it reboots itself after something like 10 minutes. If I go back to the recording that caused it to freeze and watch it again, it will freeze in exactly the same spot as before. Seems to me the only explanation is a damaged sector (not something like overheating).

So.... If I have to get the unit replaced, what should I do? Swap it out for another 622, or upgrade to the 722 or 922? Note that I have absolutely no interest in the Sling capabilities of the 922, so the 722 is probably for me, but thought I'd just put this question out there to see what people think.

One more thing... I have an antenna up and use the 622 to tune ATSC locals. I absolutely cannot live without that. Do the 722 and/or 922 have that capability?

If it is just the one recording then it could be the file rather than the drive.

Id recommend the 722k.
