I agree "Mama" was very well done. But I have to say, hope I don't offend anyone, but hasn't Kanye about used up his public grieving time? Yes, it was a tragedy, and yes it was totally unexpected, but perhaps private grieving would be more appropriate now.

Got to say, overall the show was flawless both in terms of video and audio -- and it came in close to one time to boot. What is this the 6th Grammys in HD? I remember the first few and production has come a long way since then. Now, if CBS could only get all their stations up and running DD 5.1 it would be great. Luckily, perhaps due to the weather(-2 here...) I got to hear the show in DD 5.1. WWJ from Detroit is a low power station that is overrun for me by a station in Grand Rapids, but it is O&O so it has the equipment. The station I normally watch from Lansing does not and the other local station from Saginaw flags their signal as DD but do not have the equipment. Problem is they don't know how to use the stuff they have. I wish CBS could come up with a bit of $$ to help and twist a few arms, of the big 4 they are the only ones who's outlets don't have DD in my area.

Billy Crystal??? Are you kidding??????? Yeah, everyone wants the most irrelevant, boring person to host the Grammy awards.
Maybe Barbara Walters could host the next BET awards too.

My CBS (WOIO) flagged the forced SD as 5.1. They upconvert all non-5.1 audio to faux 5.1 before sending it out. It sounds horrible. The audio levels fluctuate during the news and there are random bursts of sound from rear speakers at times. Local ABC also does this.

The sound was awful, so I had to use 2-Channel Stereo when they forced SD.

If a CBS station is sending faux 3/2L AC3 (DD 5.1) isn't the missing piece the Dolby E decoder? It's amazing to me a station couldn't afford that. That's one really good part of Fox's HD network is that all their HD affiliates are 5.1.

When you consider RAYCOM owned WOIO/WUAB, it's not that surprising. They were LAST in HD, LAST in HD News and LAST in 5.1. Raycom is joked about as "Raycheap".

Is it just me, or does Kanye suffer from tourette's? Perhaps now that he's "Graduated" he might learn to become an adult.

Is anyone else here watching on KIRO (Seattle)? From my perspective, the audio mix is actually not very good, but I'm wondering if it's something KIRO is doing, or Comcast, or just my imagination...

The station probably does have the Dolby-E equipment, for when they are doing net. But, when they are doing local, the audio chain is more than likely only stereo. So, when they did the school closing crawl, they had to go SD upconvert and lose the DD5.1 audio from net.

No, not true. The local Fox affiliate's plant is still analog. They are only 5.1 when they go to net. As soon as they go local, they are DD2.0.

Well with the Saginaw station the DD 5.1 flag is on all the time. I've called a number of times and was told that they could not afford the DD encoder and simply do not transmit DD 5.1. Fine, then set the rest of their equipment correctly so I don't have to look at the blue DD 5.1 light on my receiver if I tune to that station. The word inept comes to mind.

I am rewatching my DVHS tape in the theater room. The sound on this broadcast is fantastic. I am a TrueHD/Uncompressed snob with HD DVD and BD but this sounded as good as a 5.1 DD broadcast is ever going to sound.

Also...perhaps Beyonce was not lipsyncing the intro to her performance...but Tina did take her to school!

BEST GRAMMY SHOW in a long time!!!
Fantastic performances and great technical presentation, they really stepped it up this year as the past years HD broadcasts were very uneven and dissapointing in the audio department.
It was awesome to see Morris Day and the Time kick some major ass!
Foo Fighters ruled!
The Beatles tribute was very emotional for me.
Tina and Beyonce was great, with Ms B being a bit more restrained than usual.
Carrie Underwood,WOW!
Alicia Keys and Sinatra, very well done and classy.
And the best overall performance was Kanye West, visually this was amazing! truly amazing.
I also think the academy gave the awards to the right individuals and did a very nice job of honoring past artists and legends.

Amy Winehouse is a keeper on the hard drive at HD. Fantastic. Whether you are 18 or 75 years old, that is one sultry babe that has extreme musical artistic talent. I don't normally dig massive tatoos on chicks but she gets an exemption. That is one great UNIQUE blues,jazz/rock whatever singer.CBS HD did a GREAT job on the sat feed in HD from London.

Yep - she has an amazing voice.

She is currently battling what appear to be severe substance abuse/dependency issues in the UK, as well as coping with a husband in jail (on remand I think - yet to be convicted), and her visa to the US was initially refused and only granted too late to get to the ceremony in the US. Her parents appear to have intervened and persuaded her to get into rehab, after footage of her appearing to smoke crack was published by a UK red top.

She is an extremely talented performer - lets hope she manages to get her life back on track so she is with us for a good deal longer.

I agree she has great musical talent, but as far as looks, personally there would have to be some major work done to her to get her to look good. But that's just me...

I think she butchered her songs though. I like the way they sound from the CD.

Haven't listened to the CD, but my take on the performance was that she was just inches away from completely losing it ... on nearly live TV.

I said "That's one really good part of Fox's HD network is that all their HD affiliates are 5.1.". No mention of the local material. 5.1 from the network is inherent in the splicer system.

I thought Amy Winehouse's performance--and her band-- were great. I've cranked it up several times since last week along with the Herbie Hancock / Lang Lang Rhapsody in Blue renditionand the Pavorati tribute too.

By the way, Amy Winehouse stole her moves from Baby's sister in Dirty Dancing
