John Harris and Eric Schilling are engineering the Broadcast Music Mix this year, same as they have for the past three years.
I had to correct ABCTV99's suppositions regarding the engineering staff, even though he is usually dead on....

yea thats right I forgot Tom Holmes is doing the show. It used to be John and Jay fed to Ed Greene in the AMV truck and then Randy Ezratty (or Paul) fed out the 5.1 mix discretely. It still sounds great though.

Alicia Keys looks so different than she did when she debuted a few years back. Seems like the industry takes these women who are already beautiful and makes them like, painfully beautiful

Alright. Alicia Keys is a great singer but what's with that roaming around the stage looking for her keyboard? I saw the same thing a month or so ago on Letterman/Leno and now tonight. She goes from her piano, prances around a little bit, finds the keyboard set up somewhere else on stage, plays 5 notes on it and then goes off somewhere else. What's the point???

The best way to describe my co-worker is that he is in his late 40's & is in the "Whitest White Guys in America" demographic.

He could not not stop telling how nice Curtis was, in person & how he was so different from his stage persona. He kept going on & on about how well the entire Fifty crew treated him & his family (we flew, but my co-worker drove & took his whole family for the week). How his kids got autographs & they even offered backstage passes for the show that was going on (my co-worker politely declined).

To wit, somethings are not what they appear to be.

I don't doubt that this is true. Unfortunately it is the opposite image that sells disks and is mimic by street kids. If he presented a pro-social image it might help
curb some of the more violent elements of our society.

yes but one of the things that the industry does (for better or for worse) is weed out the contenders from the pretenders. I do not expect an Alicia Keys, for example to go the way of say a Britney Spears who we all knew was biding her time. At some point the real talent (or the talent within the system -- as there is so much unrecognized real talent out there) rises to the top regardless of the Hollywood-ized packaging. Even someone as egocentric as Kanye West -- Kanye is an amazing talent in the record producing business (a much better producer than he is an artist) but it is largely the actual talent that has gotten him where he is.

If Walter is directing this show (and it looks like he is) he's definitely going for the Emmy with the camera angles (and if Christine is the AD she's doing a hell of a job calling the music cues).

I was actually 1/2 joking. This stems from seeing her "soundstage" performance the other night. The wife and I both commented on how she was definitely on something during that night. Her eyes were glossed over and she was all over the place vocally. Very tough to watch considering her struggles. I just hope she is well put together tonight and continues with getting better.

Does your station drop out of DD5.1 when they do weather/school closings? All of mine do.

No, they all do it wrong. My CBS does the Fake 5.1 upconvert that sounds like garbage. I had to manually force my receover into 2 Channel Stereo. ABC and NBC are able to scale HD video and put their graphics over HD, keeping the true 5.1 sound. CBS and FOX cannot do it yet, even though both have HD news.
