My local store has the following offerings:

Slingbox Solo €149
Slingbox Pro HD €249

I am trying to stream contect from my cable (UPC digital in ireland non HD) box in my parents house to my own house. I have access to a box in my old room in my parents that no one uses , is there any advantage to getting the pro version, or is the built in tuner any use? ..again will be connecting to a box that i have sole use of.

How can I access the different channels and recordings and set recordings on the solo if it doesnt have its own tuner?
If I dont have HD will the picture quality be any better?

upload speed in my parents house 1.5mbs

Watch and control live or recorded TV from any PC, Mac desktop or laptop computer - both boxes can do apparently

The pro has all of this extra:

Built-in tuner avoids conflict with viewers at home
Built-in analog & HD digital (Clear QAM) cable tuner
Built-in analog & HD digital (ATSC) antenna tuner
Connect and control multiple audio / video sources

would i be correct in saying the Solo tries to access the cable boxes tuner while the Pro has its own one? would this work on a cable digital box anyway?

thanks

I currently have a pro-hd in the US and the built in tuner will only pick up free ota channels, so you wont get anything but local news channels etc. Im not sure how this relates to Ireland, but probably similar situation. But you have a dedicated box that wont interrupt anyone, so this really doesnt apply to your situation.

If the box you are connecting the sling to is not an hd box, then you wont see any improvements in quality. In other words, the pro hd will not make a non-hd channel look any better. The pro-hd is great provided you feed it an hd signal.

My suggestion for you is to go with the solo.

The answer to your question is partially no. You will connect the box to either slingbox via composite video/audio cables or coax. The slingbox will only see the channel that is fed to it from the cable box.

The tuner in both slingboxes can only pick up ota channels, so you plug the coax from the wall directly to the slingbox to get these. No need for a cable box at all in that case.

"you plug the coax from the wall directly to the slingbox "
How do you plug the coax into the SB Solo if it has no threaded connection to screw the cable into?
