I have Comcast as my cable provider and have a Motorola cable box DCT6412 they provided a few years ago when they set it up in my home. For the past few months it has started making a clicking sound that comes and goes on it when it's on. Is that possibly the hard drive going bad? Do you think I could take it in and get another box, or are they going to say it will be a housecall and charge me to "diagnosis" the problem????

It may be the drive going bad. I would think you could take it to a Comcast facility and exchange the box without an issue.

Yeah, most cable companies have some sort of local office that you can walk in with a bad box and walk out with a working one. I've had to swap three or four boxes over the years and it took longer to wait in line than it did to actually swap the box at the counter. No charge, either, as long as you didn't deliberately damage the box.

Don't believe everything on the Interwebz! A duck's quack DOES echo!

If you haven't yet, just contact your local office and tell them.
They will probably just ask you to bring it in to exchange it.
