Anyone ever heard of such a beast? My current RCA Directv receivers are S-Video output only. Would like to upgrade to component video output.

Thanks.

Unless you're trying for HD, the difference between component and S-Video is negligible (if any).

If you are intending to get HD, you will need an HD ready/capable TV and a new DirecTV receiver that is HD. Most all HD receivers have Component video outputs.

Hi Ratman,

Not trying for HD yet, but that time will come, too.

Are you sure the PQ would be negligible on SDTV with component vs. S-Video? Isn't directv digital service broadcast in 480i? Every other time I've gone from S-video to component(say, with a DVD player), the difference between the two connections have been quite remarkable. At least to me.

But, the question still remains.....does anyone make a non-HD directv receiver?

Yes... and so is a non-progressive DVD player.

That is due to the fact of the quality of source material.

Tried a few searches and came up empty. There was an RCA that's been discontinued.
You may be better off just buying an HD receiver and let it downconvert to 480i.

Radio Shack is now a "Dish" reseller. Although, you may still find a DirecTV receiver laying around in one of them.

there's a couple of both models listed above on ebay for pretty cheap ...

if you get one post back here with how well you like it ... i may consider getting one (or two) if the picture is that much better.

The Hughes HAH-SA is another discontiuned model with component out. I have the Philips and Hughes, but don't have a TV with component input.

Huh. The S75 is supposed to be obsolete. Must be old stock. Not to say it's a bad STB. I've got two of them I replaced with D10s to get serial remote control (for Replays) and the D10s don't have component... :D

The Samsung S75 also has Optical sound output for DD, make sure you get this also! The box is rock-solid and very fast.
