I've read a lot of posts tonight but haven't been able to find a clear answer. I am installing a 8 zone 8 source whole home audio system. Right now the plan is to use Russound C series for audio coupled with a VM1 video matrix.

I have 3 rooms in the house that i'd like to set up 5.1 audio but want to be able to use the whole home sources. What is the best way to do this.

I'm not married to Russound if there a better system to use.

Doesn’t the equipment come with installation manuals? Doesn’t Russound or the dealer selling the equipment offer technical support?

With all due respect, you’re talking about an extremely sophisticated system. No one here is going to be able to tell you the “best way to do it,” having never seen your house to determine what the installation would involve, never sat down and talked with you to ascertain your needs and expectations for day-to-day use, etc. If you aren’t able to figure it out for yourself from tech support and reading the manuals – including what kind of cable to pull, where to pull it, how much of it you’ll need, etc. etc. - you’ll be better served hiring a professional.

Let me ask my question a different way since it seems as if my question is not answerable...

I have not purchased a system yet but am rather evaluating systems and installers. The 3 different professionals I have had propose systems for my house all select Russound for whole home audio and video distribution.

My question is this: If I have multiple rooms in the home which I want have 5.1 audio played from central sources such as cable, blu ray and a media server can Russound do this or am I better off looking at other manufactures.

I showed this to my son who’s a pro installer and he indicated that Russound can’t do what you’re wanting.

That said I have to wonder, if three companies told you they could do it with Russound – is there some reason that you distrust them? If Russound is the only brand they deal in then sure, I can see the concern. But if they deal in several brands, I would expect that they should know which one has the products capable of achieving your goals (unless perhaps they’re being hamstringed by the budget).

BTW, my son thinks it’s better for the 5.1 systems to be local (independent). I mean, do you really want to trek across to the other side of the house, or down to some basement, just to load up the DVD you want to watch? What a hassle.
