We are in the process of replacing 3 tube TVs in our church with 3 LCD TV's (all 720p) for watching the video feed from the sanctuary in alternate rooms. I think some are planning on just hooking the new TV's up to the existing coax cables that are running to the rooms already. But considering we have a HD Cannon camera w/ HDMI output and will have new HDTV's, I can't in good conscience let them do this. So I am trying to come up with the best way to connect this; here's the layout:
Camera >> (50ft) >> Room1 >> (50ft) >> Room2 >> (50ft) >> Room 3
These are general cable distances, give or take a little. So there's 50ft between the camera and Room1, 100ft between the camera and Room2, and 150ft between the camera and Room3. 100ft between Room1 & Room 3, etc.
I was initially going to split the HDMI at the camera with an active HDMI splitter and run HDMI everywhere - one run at 50ft, one at 100ft, one at 150ft. OR run 50ft into room1, then into the 1x4 splitter, then 50ft from 1 to 2 and 100ft from 1 to 3. But maybe this is too long of runs for that. Since I'm only using 720p signal, could this work? (It would probably be the easiest.) I would probably have to purchase the highest end 22AWG cables.
I'm also now considering using Cat5. I could put a 1x4 active HDMI splitter near the camera (assuming there's room up there and available power), then run 3 outputs into a Cat5 converter (for example - Monoprice's PID 6532) then run 2 cat5 cables from each into each room (1 @ 50ft, 1@100ft, 1@150ft).
It may also be nice to first run the signal to the church's audio booth first before splitting it (for accessability), which would add another 50ft of HDMI from the camera to get to the 1x4 splitter. That will slightly lower the distances to the three rooms too.
Any thoughts/votes for these options? Please feel free to suggest anything I may not have thought of. For example, is there any way to daisy chain the signal that would work better? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks everyone!
