Live in apartment, older building. Cable comes in through living room. Right now, I have a splitter there--one coax goes to kitchen tv (non HD, no box) and the other goes through to den. In den, that signal is split 3 ways--one goes through to bedroom to a tv (non hd, no box), one goes to hd digital cable box in den, and the other goes to cable modem in den (which then goes to wifi router, if you need to know). Also, if it matters, I have a wifi blue ray hooked to the tv in den. I know I should put on an amp when cable come into building, but should i do an amp or something at the second split in den? thanks

Is there a problem? If not, leave it alone.

But in general, you want to amplify before any splits. If you can't do that, amplify as close to the first point as possible. You're amplifying signal+noise, so you want to get it done before there's more noise...

Yeah, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you are having issues, we need to know the following:

1) Is the splitter in the living room a regular 2-way splitter?
2) What is the distance from the first split to the 2nd split?
3) What are the numbers on the splitter in the bedroom, and to which port is the cable modem connected?
4) What are the signal levels at the cable modem as found at http://192.168.100.1?.

Thanks to you both for replying
It ain't broke, and the new HDTV is a dream, so I can live with it. But I have never had a crisp pucture on any of the tv's in this place save the midget non-hd tv in kitchen, so if I can make it better without driving anyone too crazy :-):

1) Is the splitter in the living room a regular 2-way splitter?
--yes
2) What is the distance from the first split to the 2nd split?
--30-35 feet of cable--one cable
3) What are the numbers on the splitter in the bedroom, and to which port is the cable modem connected?

--Second splitter in den. compliments of Time-Warner. SVG3T 5-1002 MHz
--modem on port 7 dB (hope that is what you need to know--# was very tiny)

4) What are the signal levels at the cable modem

downstream Power Level -13.0 dBmV Signal to Noise Ratio 34.1 dBmV
Upstream Power Level 44.7 dBmV

any help is appreciated

Just install a standard 15dB gain drop amp with a DC-12 on the output, with the TAP leg feeding the front room TV set and the OUT lag going to the bedroom. That'll give you as close to comparable signal levels at all outlets as you can get.
