I want to stream a movie from a DLNA Media Server to a DLNA Media Renderer (a TV in this case). However, I want to be able to initiate it from a DLNA Media Controller, regardless of what state the TV is in (as long as it's on, connected and in normal usage).

Thus, is there any action that can be sent from the DMC to force the DMR to start stream content from the DMS?

I'm looking for an action that can be used on any DLNA Media Renderer certified TV.

Sum1 asked this b4r, no luck.

DLNA is a PULL mechanism, it doesn't do PUSH.

This isn't necessarily true. Parts of DLNA are pull and parts are push.

A DMR can be pushed content from a DMC. TwonkyMedia can do this (act as a DMC and push content) assuming you have a DMR that supports it. Not all do.

A DMP (digital media player) is pull only.

This is interesting. Do you know if the DLNA DMR certification requires the DMR to support the push mechanism?

Do you happen to know more technical details around the actions that performs the push?
