What wires? Just for the speakers, or did you run some control wires as well (Cat5e)?
What I would like to do, is run all the zones into one single switch which has remote controlability, as I do not want to have to walk back to the closet every time i want to turn up/down - on/off a room.
My end goal being to run the system through an ipad or the new Google Nexus tablet, maybe linked to a Logitech Link.
Take a look at the Aton DLA series, paired with an inexpensive amp.
Now, what will your sources be? Those need to be remote controlled as well. Check out the Sonos Connect. But note that inexpensive solutions for this problem will entail the use of multiple apps on your phone/tablet. Even if you use a remote app like iRule, you'll still have to switch apps for controlling complex sources like Internet streamers/digital library players.
I was looking at the Niles SSVC6 Black Speaker Selection and Volume Control System FG01044 but could not figure out how it is controlled. Actually I am having trouble figuring out how any of these are controlled, short of knobs on the face of the device.
It's not. Just a mechanical switch. Knobs on the front.
The Aton is the cheapest device I know of that gives remote volume control for a number of zones, and has IR/RF/keypad remote control options. Using it with a phone/tablet would require an IR gateway device and an associated app for that...
