I'm running a cable chase in my front closet between my crawl and attic to run...well a bunch of stuff. several runs of cat6, maybe some speaker wire, maybe some low voltage. At the moment, I will probably use it for a POE IP camera. It is a ranch home. Older, built in the 60s. From a fire standpoint, I know I should look at my local code, and I will, but what should I use for a chase? I know they make PVC that is rated for fire (like boiler exhaust for example), but normal PVC is not. Does that not matter if I am not in a chimney chase?

Also, what should I put on each end? Should I just caulk with firestop calk around the pipe and the cables (a PITA if I have to run something else), or what?

Would I be better off running electrical conduit? metal? plastic? I'm thinking I'll use 2 pieces of PVC for easier installation and join them in the closet with PVC cement.

I'm especially interested in any safety related tips.

Thanks!

Use flexible PVC cable conduit, to hold the cables. The conduit penetrations should be caulked with fire rated caulk. You can save some money and use rigid non-metallic electrical rated gray PVC.

The open ends of the conduit can be filled with flexible putty, available as a brick at HD/Lowes, called duct seal, if you need it.
