I just purchased a new home (to me) and want to install a home audio distribution. I will be installing in ceiling speakers and will have 4 zones. I really like the Sonos connect amps but I would need 4 of them. I am only looking to stream Pandora and iTunes. Is there an alternative for maybe a litte cheaper? Sonos just looks to be the easiest route as far as I can tell.

Thanks

Depends solely on how much flexibility you need. If playing Pandora (one stream) in one or more of the zones is the only choice (plus zone on/off), a single Sonos and external amp, powering a speaker selector with volume control would be a cheaper solution... Or two Sonos units both feeding 2 zones each, depending on your usage model...

But yes, for retrofit solutions without local keypads, the Sonos system is absolutely simple. The forthcoming NuVo system would be a competitor, but it's not yet available and therefore we can't do a comparison.

Thanks for the reply. I thought about the volume controls and may do that to minimize on the Sonos amps. Maybe I can do bedroom/ bathroom on the same zone with a volume control. And maybe kitchen/ back pation on one zone with a volume control in the kitchen.

Only if Sonos made a multi zone connect amp.

Thanks

Will I need impedance matching volume controls with the sonos connect amp if I decide to go this route?

Thanks
