I am having a Nuvo Grand Concerto/MPS4 system installed in my new house in a couple of weeks, and I am looking for information on controlling the system with an Android device. If anyone has any experience with this, I would appreciate your input (e.g. difficulty to set up, how is the user interface, comparability to apple app, etc.). Thanks in advance.

There's no Android app available for the MPS4 yet... NuVo says "they're working on it, but don't have a timeframe for release" (paraphrasing, but you can see the quotes on their Facebook page). I would think they would be getting a lot of pressure for one.

Note that this is a different answer than for the new P100/P200/P3100 systems, which have both iOS and Android apps out the gate.

Maybe if everyone complained to Nuvo, they'd move faster.

I called them yesterday and was told that they do not need to create an Android app because an Android device can access the system through the "Client Interface". I don't pretend to really understand everything he said, but he explained that after setting this up initially, the control functionality would be similar to the Apple app. Does anyone else know about this or understand it? Has anyone tried it?

I assume he's talking about the web interface for the MPS4. The issue for iOS is that it won't run the Java Flash-based interface they used. I completely forgot about that method!

Hmmm. I suppose that'll work, but don't know how well that will work on a phone. On an Andrioid tablet using a browser, point to the MPS4, that might be acceptable. Haven't tried it on Android, but I have used the interface from a browser. Won't be a slick as an app, but the functionality is there.

Well, not really (although the results are the same!). It's because Autonomic Controls hasn't released the Android app for their servers / software - which is where the NuVo MPS4 firmware comes from. NuVo will have to get it from them (same as the iOS app, which is a re-branded / based-on version of the Autonomic app). I see an article reviewing the Autonomic MMS-5A and it gives the same answer - "no Android, but you can use the Flash GUI via a browser".

(I said Java earlier, I meant Flash - which is why that answer doesn't work on iOS).

Old thread, but I just noticed that NuVo announced the availability of an Android app for the MPS4 and MPS4E. Still in beta, but available:

Jeff,

That's a good thing. I just ran across this thread an them telling people to just use the web interface that requires flash was just a bad move. Adobe decided to give up on mobile flash altogether and the newest version of Android, Jelly Bean, doesn't even support flash (it is over 1/3 of the android devices out there). I'm glad they decided to add android support, Nuvo is one of the companies I am considering for my WHA project (though I won't be starting it for 18 months due to us expecting a baby in September and me putting projects on hold).

Just for clarity, this new Android support is for the older (Autonomic-based) MPS4 / MPS4E MusicPort servers. NuVo has supported Android from the get-go on the new P100/P200/P3100 "wireless" systems...

Couldn't get the android app to recognize my MPS4E server, over WiFi (Ubiquiti, strong signal). Tried the internal IP (plus + symbol) as given by the browser config app (music-port/config), and still wouldn't work.

Next time I'm home during the day, I'll call TS.

I updated the MPS4 firmware, and now the app works.

You can update the MPS4 firmware from the web interface. The remote client pieces are also accessed from that interface. Point a web browser at the MPS4's IP address...

There's also methods through the Sync client. I believe that utility can also be downloaded from the web interface.

Yes did that via music-port/config. however the timer bar didnt do anything once clicking update. Does it take some time, 30+ minutes? Struggling to update it.

I've never had a problem, updating the fw from the browser interface. I don't want to make the wrong suggestions.

App works OK. If I leave it open in the background, it hangs. But when restarting, no prob.

I rarely use my phone (or iPad) to control. On-wall KP is just really simple and quick, for most uses. If I want to play a particular album or song, I'll use a tablet.

Its been almost 2 years since the last update. So any licenses will have expired. My minds a complete blank, its coming back but not soon enough. :/

Timer bar didnt move. Getting the software sent over shortly so will try again. But surely a 2 year update cannot be as big!?

Ok, further developments.. there aint any. I forgot all about being able to download the client server from the Nuvo equipment intranet page.. reading does help!

It won't take the firmware update. Can this be done manually with a Pc connected directly via rs232? Everytime I try the update it in time hangs the server then I have to manually reset to get control back through the web interface(intranet).

Any further ideas chaps..

Can you run a category cable from the MPS4 directly to the router?

There could be licensing issues, UK v US, for some of the included sources (SiriusXM, Spotify). Is the location set correctly, in the web interface?

I'm curious how this app works for the Nuvo GC and the MPS4e. I've got the GC and judging my options on source control. I've not bought the MP4SE and don't really want to, but if this works well it could sway my opinion. I'm mostly interested in tablet control.

Thanks.

The mobile app works well and allows full control of the system, the MPS4, and any other NuVo sources or components programmed to the IR library (probably rare these days). The app should be tablet-enabled, too. I'm using the Mirage-branded version (original MusicPort), but I believe the NuVo-branded version (needed for the MPS4 and E) has the tablet UI support included...
