I have four pairs of 8 ohm on an 8 ohm amp. Each pair is controlled via NX-VM80 Impedance Matching Volume Controls. Each of the NX-VM80's are set to "4X".

There are instances when only one pair is desired. Would I get more output (watts) to the single pair by permanently setting each NX-VM80 to "2X" and selecting the desired pair using something like the Advantage 4-way Speaker Selector(below)?

Thanks in advance!

How much power are you looking for?

Is this for background music or "critical listening"?

Have you considered low-cost amps for each set of speakers or a multi-channel amp?

No it's not for audiophile quality. I just want to get a little more umph out of the ceiling mounted speakers in the Master from time to time yet maintain the ability to drive all the other rooms without having to worry about ohms. The low cost amp (didn't really know they could be that cheap) is a good idea but I'd like to keep the heat generated as low as possible.

What do you think, am I on the right track by simply switching each of the NX-VM80s to 2x and letting the 4 way speaker selector manage the Impedance?

These are a good deal, the specs are good for background music but you need to include the cost of power supplies.

But any sort of impedance matching control or switch is going to waste some power.
