First im a newb so I'm sorry of this isn't the correct forum. Just got a new Samsung smart TV. I know most of the time ppl run all their HDMI inputs to the TV, then run an audio out to the surround receiver.

My set up is different. I have all HDMI running into my surround receiver and then 1 HDMI out to the least that's how I had my old Tv set up.  On this new TV im running my 1 HDMI into the #2 port of the tv.

Am I doing this right?

Yes, and "most people" would be better off running all sources to the AVR and one HDMI run to the TV, just as you've done.

One hdmi to the tv from a receiver is the correct way to do this.

However, if someone is using the tv for sound, and they don't have an audio system, then running all sources directly to the display is the way to go.
