I'm looking for suggestions for a rack mountable 12-channel amp to use with a 6 zone Control4 system. I've been recommended an Episode amp and wanted to know what others use in their systems.

The Episode is a nice piece.
It's digital, so it's cool running and very efficient. It is also a lot smaller than most other 12 channel amps.

Control4 has a 4 zone amp and a 8 zone amp they both are great. I have the 2 8zone amps and love them all you to is but the rack mount kits for the amps they are very cheap.

Control4 amps are nice. They have lots of power, but the 8 zone isn't cheap. I use Sherbourn, not as much power, but enough for background music and parties. Check eBay

Here's one:

Is it solipsistic in here, or is it just me?

I think most any 12-channel amp would work fine, as far as sound goes. Almost all multichannel distributed audio amps are digital, nowadays.

Are there any bells or whistles needed on the amp, for use with the C4 system? Looking at one the Episode multichannel amp webpages, I see at least one offers 'audio-sensing', and has a 12V trigger. If those will be needed, and you're buying a different one, you need to do some homework.

Niles, Speakercraft, Sonance, HTD, Elan, Dayton Audio - and many more.

I think Episode is fine, and easy - no hassles. If it doesn't work, the installer is responsible for troubleshooting, fixing, and replacing. I would say that's worth a premium.

Thanks for the advice. I was just trying to see if I could save some money by getting the amp myself instead of having the integrator supply it. I'm meeting with them tomorrow and will ask what the requirements are for the amp.

Can you save a little money by getting a different amp yourself? Yes.

But you are on the hook if anything goes wrong and you are the one who will paying for service calls and anything else when it does go bad.
If they supply it, the any issues will be theirs and they will have to correct it. At least until the warranty runs out.

I took your advice and just went with the Episode Amps the integrator was offering. After looking around they seemed reasonably priced and I knew my integrator would stand behind them.
