Please help- home in construction - need help fast

Hello Dear Friends/Gurus

I am building my own home. Right now in electrical rough in phase. Soon to be drywalled (Say another two weeks). I need struct cables in. After reading and reading, I get some idea but I want to make sure I got it right.

In general, like everyone I want TV, audio, security, lighting, intercom.

Have a closet on each floor which can feed its own, and they will be interconnected. That way system is neat.

Questions/confusion is:

How many wires do I need on each plate as general rule.
Is running HDMI over ethernet reliable?
How do I automate lights from central command?
Can I have intercom with security camera setup or its separate.

IF there is any good thread /guide on this forum, I can well go over it. Also, product recommendations are welcome as I have lil time to search a lot with all other construction going on. (I am the GC for my house)...

Also is hiring a consultant for design a good idea?

Thanks
DJ

Depends on what you're trying to do or plan for. But in general, at each display location 2-3 cat5e/cat6 and 1-2 RG6.

It's not "Ethernet", it's HDMI over category (cat5e/cat6) cable - they use the same wires and connectors, but are otherwise completely separate and different. The HDBaseT technology is very good and reliable. Many other reliable setups are available, too.

Way too many choices there to give a simple answer. Generally intercoms are not part of the security system (unless both are part of a larger automation system), but a front door camera can be an exception...

With only a week or two until drywall - you barely have enough time to even do that. But yes, that would be your best option at this point.

Don't expect to become an expert in all of these topics in 2 weeks. Simply won't happen. Hire a pro to get you out of this jam...
