I would like to have a PC-based Video-Camera (QuickCam or similar) that sends video to a PC. when movement is detected by the camera I'd like an OSD message and/or sound to be shown on my HTPC screen, possibly with the image from the camera. I know that I can use Girder for the HTPC message, but my real problem at this point is detecting the event.
The camera will be at the other end of the house, so I thought that I could use X10 from the camera's PC to the HTPC. At least I could trigger a "Movement Detected" OSD message in that way. An alternative would be to have a WiFi connection and use TCP/IP to trigger the event.
I'd like to do this with video detection software, instead of using an X10-based motion detector (reason - I have a number of cameras and no motion-detector :D ).
Does anyone have any ideas about how I might achieve this?
