Could I run two separate audio channels, left & right speaker, over standard 4 wire RJ11 phone cable? U have two phone outlets in each room, one is unused. Instead of having to snake speaker cable, could I use this second phone connection? I imagine the quality would suffer significantly... Any thought?

Thanks,
Adam

If pulling new speaker lines is not an option, then you might
as well try it. Make sure you trace the correct wire back to
the phone distribution (use a wire tracer or continuity tester).
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. All phone lines are ran to a central distribution box, so I can disconnect the actual phone company line to eliminate the power interference issues. I was mostly worried about the general interference and low quality I might get because of unshielded cabling. Well, I may just give it a shot.. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

It wasn't too clear if you are intending to run speaker level audio (ie, from the amp to the speaker) or line level (ie, from a source to a receiver / amplifier in another room).

For interconnect level distribution you can use Balanced Line Drivers without degradation over 1000'. Running from the amp to the speakers over phone wire is, well, pot luck. It may indeed provide enough quality for the intended purpose. In either case, you must use care in selecting the right wire pairs to avoid equipment damage. Who knows, you may achieve the added benefit of "music on hold".

Just to be a bit picky...

RJ11 is a type of modular connector. The wire used for phone systems is either Category 3 or Category 5.

RJ11 is a four pin connector, RJ45 is an 8 pin connector.

Good ideas! To answer a previous question, it was line level, running a source to a receiver/amp in another room. I'll give this a shot and see what happens!

Thanks again,
Adam

If you are running from a source to a receiver in another room, not a problem! Here's all you need: 1 Balanced Line Driver. 1 Balanced Line Receiver. About $90 each. 1000' limit over CAT3/CAT5 twisted pair. www.audiocontrol.com
